Libbye Lewis Stamm was born in Houston Texas on August 21, 1922, She died of Covid-19 on December 6, 2020, in her hometown at the age of 98.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry E. Stamm, III, and her parents, Lawrence Henry Lewis and Marie Inez Gill.

Libbye was born, reared and died in Houston, a city she loved. She matriculated to Allen Elementary School in 1930, Johnson Junior High in 1937 and graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1940. She often told of birthday parties held in Herman Park.

Between high school and matriculating to the Rice Institute, she worked as a chemist assistant for Humble Oil in Baytown, TX. She caused a small lab explosion that ruined her favorite lavender outfit. Her lab partners enjoyed the three days the lab was closed for repairs.

While at Rice Institute, she met Henry Edwin Stamm, III, in class. Soon they were inseparable. During the two years they attended Rice before World War II interfered, Edwin gave her a ride to and from class each day with her perched on his bicycle handlebars while balancing her stack of schoolbooks. They were married on September 10, 1943. The headline in the Houston Chronicle society section declared that "two Houston families joined in marriage." During World War II, Libbye lived with her family waiting for Edwin to return.

After the war, Libbye worked as a full partner with her husband Edwin to build a house out in the country, an area that is now known as the Galleria. She remembered the house fondly, including the fact that you could see straight into the bathroom from the front door. She and Edwin were the third family to move to El Lago, the area where NASA was to be developed. The family were neighbors with many of the early astronaut families.

In 1972, having launched their sons, Libbye and Edwin moved to Sidney, Australia with Edwin's work. Libbye enjoyed living in Sidney and continued friendships with people she met there up until the time of her death.

Returning to Houston in 1979, Libbye established her household in the Champions area when FM 1960 was a two-lane road. She lived in the same house until the time of her death.

During her life, Libbye enjoyed singing in Methodist church choirs and with the Sweet Adelines. She was an avid bridge player and sports fan. The Houston Astros' 2017 win of the World Series brought her immense pleasure.

Libbye is survived by her sister, Patricia Lewis Johnson. She is also survived by her sons, Dr. Henry E. Stamm, IV, and wife Dr. Beth Hudnall Stamm of Whitefish, Montana; Lawrence Lewis Stamm and partner Nancy Taylor of Dunster, British Columbia, Canada; and Vernon Guy Stamm, II, and wife Marnely Domingo Acosta Stamm of Tarlac City, Philippines.

She had nine grandchildren: Jesse Lee Stamm and partner Sharon Wall of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; Sara Stamm Berglund and husband Aaron Nathan Berglund of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; Lori Stamm and husband Augusto Alvarado of Tegucigalpa, Honduras; Amber Martinez and husband Darrin Martinez of Grand Junction, Colorado; John Thomas Stamm and wife Amy R. Stamm of Tomball, Texas; Devorah Leah (Amanda) Leopold and husband Michael Leopold of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; Sharoz Khabir of Tri-Cities, Washington; Heather Nicole Stamm of Florida and Marinella Acosta of Tarlac City, Philippines.

Her sixteen great grandchildren include Caidin Daniel Edwin Stamm, Cameron Riley Stamm, Nathan Lee Stamm, Brieanna Tutty, Adalyn Sienna Berglund, Noah Gage Berglund, Luca Alvarado Stamm, Rosa Alvarado Stamm, Philip Gabriel Stamm, Andrew Rafael Stamm, Alyssa Rachelle Stamm, Chanel Sisson, Cadence Sisson, Menachem Mendel Leopold, Yosef Yitzchak Leopold, Menucha Rachel Leopold, and Hinda Faiga Leopold. Other close family include Robert P. Johnson of Magnolia, Texas, Bethany Evans of Shakopee, Minnesota, Michael L. Johnson and wife Alexandra Johnson, Michele Johnson, Tyler Brice Johnson, and Robbi Evans all of Spring Texas, and Amy C. Hudnall and Margaret Erin Miller of Zionville, NC.

A memorial service will be livestreamed at 2pm Central on Saturday, December 19, 2020 and may be viewed at www.allsaintsmt.org .
