Lewis Edward Ehrle died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, December 4th surrounded by his loving family after a long struggle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. He was preceded in death by the true joy of his life Shirley Ehrle, his wife of 57 years, in 2015. He is survived by his three children: daughter Abby Walker and son in law Mark, and their three children: Reid and his wife Paige, Andrea and her husband Bryan, and Robert; son Daniel and daughter in law Mendy, their daughter Kristina and her husband, Sam, and their daughter, Bethany; son John and daughter in law Kathy, and their three children: Lewis, Tori, and Jack. Lewis entered this world in Belfield, North Dakota on November 28, 1928. He was the second of five sons born to Margaret (Ridley) and Frederick Ehrle. He and his brothers grew up with a great appreciation for nature and loved to hunt and work on their Uncles' wheat farms on the border of North Dakota and Canada. At six foot four he was the tallest boy in the Class of 1946 and was the starting center for the Belfield Bantams basketball team. After high school, Lew worked for the State of North Dakota before joining the US Army, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant before being honorably discharged at the conclusion of the Korean War. Upon his return to the US he went to work for Mobil Oil Corporation in Casper, Wyoming. Forty-two years later he would retire from Mobil after having lived in – Tripoli, Libya; Wichita Falls, Tx; Midland, Tx and finally Houston, Tx. It was in Casper where he met, married, and started a family with Shirley Rogan Ehrle.

A military burial and private celebration of Lew's life will be held for family and friends at The Houston National Cemetery at a date to be advised later. In lieu of the customary remembrances contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.

Lewis was a loyal man of integrity and kindness. A friend to all. He will be greatly missed.
