Lester Eugene Maxey, 75, of Cypress, passed away October 10th, 2024. He was born October 28th, 1948, in Houston, Texas to the late Joe Maxey and Geraldine Maxey Childers. He was raised in the Aldine area where he and his dad raised horses and rode for many years with his parents and grandparents with the Salt Grass Trail Riders. He was a graduate of Douglas MacArthur High School in the Aldine ISD on May 31,1968.

Some of the names designated to Les: My Handsome Man, Maxey, Dad, Coach, Pop, Big Horn and Cowboy.

We met in summer of 1978 and married in February 1979.

Les was an only child to Joe and Geraldine Maxey and always wanted a big family. Together, we created a big blended family with 4 sons and one daughter. Along with these, came weddings, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Les loved his family and worked hard to provide for all.

Some of his joys was coaching our sons in baseball and football on teams with Cy Fair Sports Association. The players are now grown men but still refer to him as Coach Les. He is remembered with his knee high socks and always with the top trim being the color of the team. In spite of his socks, what a handsome coach he was. And if he took off his cap, we all knew some play had not gone as planned.

Family time was Les's hobby. He loved to barbecue on the back patio, homemade fried chicken and pork chops and Friday night family night. Les loved working on our vehicles or helping out anyone who needed a little auto repair guidance. That was quality time to him.

His pride was his Peterbilt truck. He drove a truck from the time he was a young boy with his dad, Joe. Les couldn't pass up a good chrome shop. The more chrome he could put on that truck, I guess the better it ran down the highway. Combined with the chrome, were the massive amount of running lights needed to see that highway full on.

He took pride in his career in trucking. He drove coast to coast, one of the last old school truckers and they called him "Big Horn". His favorite colors were blue and chrome. He knew every highway across this country and didn't need a GPS to find his way home. He owned his own big rig and always stated, "If it don't shine it ain't mine!" God blessed us with his laugh and his unmistakable whistle and aviator sunglasses.

He is survived by his wife, Gayle Porter Maxey of 45 years, the love of his life.

He is survived by his children: Jeff Harris (Kim), Jim Harris, Merinda Drews (Mike), J.Allen Maxey (Fiance' Kelly Atkinson), and Joe Dade Maxey (Kristin).

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Hayden Harris (Madison); Colby Harris (Devin); Payton Harris (Fiance' Roman Rogers); Taylor Wilcox (Haley); Kaylin Largent (Christopher); Alissa Gayle Maxey; Chase Cornman (Shaylene); Nick Cornman; Cassie Coleman; Jadeyn Maxey; Bonnie Maxey; Jase Maxey; and 5 great grandchildren: Holden Harris; Corbin Harris; Declan Harris; Tate Wilcox, and Emma Medina.

He is also survived by his Aunt Audrey Halbert of Teague, TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Joe Maxey and Geraldine Maxey Childers, half brother JC Maxey and his wife Billie, and stepfather John Childers. And his childhood lifelong best friend,Wayne Bruce.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday,11/16/24 at the residence of Jim Harris at 1:00PM.

Daddy drove an 18 wheeler and we sure miss him when he's gone.
