Lester B. Boedeker
Lester B. Boedeker passed away February 20, 2020, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 83. He was born December 26, 1936 in Shiner, Texas. In his younger years, he helped his family with the small store and dances at Boedeker's Place. He was an Army veteran who served from 1957 to 1963. He obtained the rank of CPL and earned the Good Conduct Medal, and recognition as Expert (Bayonet and 81MM) and Sharpshooter (Pistol). He then moved to Houston where he became a member of Park Place Lutheran Church and served as an usher for many years. He played 3rd base on the Park Place Lutheran men's baseball team for many years. The team had the exciting opportunity to travel to Dallas for a championship playoff game in 1970. Lester worked in construction all his life and always took great pride in doing his best work. He always said that your work is a reflection of who you are. He also had a great love of fishing, especially deep sea fishing. He enjoyed having fish fries and playing cards and dominoes with the neighbors. He and his family spent many Saturday evenings dancing polkas and waltzes at Bill Mraz Ballroom.
He is survived by his wife, Aline, Houston, daughter Kathaline Strickler and husband Mike, Houston, daughter Ronda Bubenik and husband David, Cypress, grandsons, Darryl Strickler, Houston, Matthew Strickler and wife Shannon, Houston, Jeremy Strickler, Houston, Zachary Bubenik, Cypress, great grandson Cole Strickler, Houston. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Martha Boedeker, sisters Elrine Mayer and Junita Joachim, and his brothers Dennis Boedeker, Fritz Boedeker, Jr., and Martin Boedeker.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, February 23, from 3pm to 6pm, at Klein Funeral Home, 9719 Wortham Blvd., Houston, Texas 77065. Services will be held at Klein Funeral Home on Monday, February 24 at 10am. Private family interment to follow at Forest Park – Westheimer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to www.woundedwarriorproject.org, or local animal shelter of your choice.
