Lessie Lee Upchurch's Obituary
Lessie Leona Lee Upchurch went to be with her Lord on December 25, 2016 at the age of 91. Born on December 7, 1925 in Shiro, Texas to Linnie Welch and George Washington Lee. Graduated from Madisonville High School in 1942 as a top volleyball player and married Mack Pershing Upchurch on December 12, 1942. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years Mack and her son Jimmy Lee Upchurch; parents George Washington Lee and Linnie Welch Lee; brothers Gary Lee, W.R. (Bill) Lee and OB Lee. She is survived by her son George Mack "Mickey" Upchurch and wife Stacey; daughter in law Carol Gates Upchurch; daughter Lisa Upchurch Bodway and husband Brad; Grandchildren Natalie Upchurch, Valerie Greene, Alyson Swidersky and husband Justin, Ashley Blevins and husband Donald, Mickelle Johnson and husband Tim, Bailey Bodway, and Brody Bodway. Great-grandchildren Miranda Dillon, Jake Greene, Emily Greene, Magen Johnson, McKenna Swidersky, Mason Swidersky, Addyson Johnson, and Lynlee Johnson.
Lessie and Mack moved to Tomball in 1943, building their own home that was known as the "red house with round windows". They resided in that house, raising their children and grandchildren until both their deaths. Lessie was a strong advocate of being involved in her community and served her town well throughout her 73 years in Tomball. Whether leading or serving, Lessie was always a pillar to her family, church and community. Known as the " Historian of Tomball" and author of

published in 1976, she was also a member of First Baptist Church Tomball where she served as librarian for 42 years, Order of the Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron and Deputy Grand Matron, Tomball ISD PTA president and substitute teacher, 40 year US census enumerator, attended Sam Houston State University, Tomball Bicentennial Commission Officer, board member Spring Creek County Historical Association, Tomball Diamond Jubilee Chairman, Tomball City Charter Commission, Tomball City Parks and Recreation Board, Tri-County Stamp Club, Tomball Rotary, Chairman Tomball Depot Committee, Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce
Outstanding Citizen 1992, Harris County Historical Commission, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Tomball Nursing Home volunteer, Tomball Memorial Playground Steering Committee, Tomball Centennial Commission.

ie's devotion to civic duty, church, charities and most of all to her family has truly made Tomball, Texas a better place to live and she will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, 12-28-2016 from 5-8pm at Klein Funeral Home Tomball. Funeral Services will be held at 10am Thursday, 12-29-2016 at First Baptist Church, 400 West Houston Street, Tomball, Texas 77375 wil interment following at Klein Memorial Park on Highway 249 in Pinehurst.
