In Loving Memory

Leonard Daniel Zajicek (LD) passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, at the age of 95 years, 10 months old. LD was born in Buckholts, Texas on May 27, 1929, on the family farm. He was the 9th out of 12 children born to John and Tressie Jurca Zajicek and the last member of this great and glorious generation to pass away.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria Hope Zajicek, son, Ronald Alan Zajicek, his parents, John and Tressie Zajicek, brothers and sisters, Olga Fuchs  (Theo), Tillie Luksa (Alfred), Mickie Telschow (Vincent) , Evellyn  Webster, (Bob), Johnnie Truett (Bob), Estelle Lemmon (Fred), Maxie Norman (Ralph), Doris Ricotta ( Sam), Marvin Zajicek (Edith), Vince Zajicek (Lois) and Robert Zajicek.

In 1938 the family moved to Houston, Texas. He spent a lot of his early years driving the family truck full of vegetables to the Farmers Market in downtown Houston. That passion for vegetable gardening continued his whole life. LD graduated from Aldine High School in 1947. He was a veteran of the Korean War, 3rd Division, 15th Infantry, obtaining the rank of Corporal in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, LD was employed in the grocery business for most of his entire working career.

Family was always at the heart of LD's life. He was a proud parent of four boys. Survived by three sons, Thomas (Sue), Donald (Susan), and Randy (Dawn). His boys were blessed to have him as such a great role model. Grandchildren, Laura Genella (Charlie), Marsh Zajicek (Lauren), Kevin Zajicek (Connie), Ashley Jackson (Davis), Alan Zajicek, Austin Zajicek, Alanna Zajicek, Kelly Zajicek (Britt), Cody Zajicek (Stephanie), Dana McAfee (Ryan), Chance Zajicek (Sarah), Randy Kyle Zajicek (Brianna). Special Grandchildren, Chance and Christina Harris.  Great Grandchildren, Miller, Jack, Kate, Quinn, Eloise, Louis (Little LD), Riley Z, Carter, Finley, Parker, Audrey, Adi, Caroline, Wyatt, Hadley, Callie, Kolby, Ryan, Brent and Riley M. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and  grand -nephews.

LD loved sports. The Houston Astros, Pro football and College football were his favorites. He was active in all his sons' sporting events as well as attending as many games as he could in support of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. If he couldn't attend, he couldn't wait to ask each one "Did you Win?" and encourage each one to do their best. He was also an avid fisherman and loved watching the deer in the hill country feed on a fresh bale of alfalfa he just put out. Another favorite time in his life was attending the yearly family reunion at the farm in Buckholts. This family farm held a special place in his heart since this was the place where he was born.

LD leaves behind a legacy of compassion and kindness. He will be remembered for his willingness to help wherever he could. His impact on the lives of those around him is immeasurable, and he will be sorely missed.

Services will be held on Wednesday April 2, 2025, at the Klein Funeral Home Cy-Fair, 9719 Wortham Blvd. Houston, Texas 77065. Visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am.  Funeral services begin at 11 am and the grave side services will be at Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1pm.
A reception will be held to honor his memory at the home of Don & Susan Zajicek, 16306 Saint Helier, Jersey Village, Texas 77040 immediately following the cemetery services.

Serving as Pallbearers are Marsh Zajicek, Kevin Zajicek, Alan Zajicek, Austin Zajicek, Kelly Zajicek, Cody Zajicek, Randy Kyle Zajicek, Chance Zajicek. Honorary Pallbearers are Chance Harris and Carter Zajicek.

We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the individuals at Blue Star Hospice over the past 2 years for their excellent caregiving. A Special thank you to LD's private caregivers, Veta and Alberta, for always being there for him and making sure he had everything he needed.

Final Thoughts

While we mourn the loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived. He has left a huge footprint, an enduring legacy and beautiful memories. His spirit will forever remain in our hearts, and his contribution and dedication to his entire family will never be forgotten. Rest in peace LD.
