Leonard Joseph Higgins Jr. peacefully passed away Saturday,December 24, 2022 at home surrounded by loved ones at the age of 82.
Lennie was born May 7, 1940 in St. Louis Missouri to Leonard J. Higgins and Bernice Mary Higgins. He was the oldest of five siblings. Vincent Higgins, Kathy Bell, Madonna Moore, and Steven Higgins.  Lennie graduated from Festus Missouri High School where he was scouted by Notre Dame to play basketball on a full scholarship. However, due to family demands they moved to Texas. It was in Terrell Texas that he met the love of his life Robbie Baker. Anyone that knows Lennie knows he had a love for fast cars. While cruising through Terrell in his '57 Chevy he came
across Robbie twirling her baton in her front yard. He always joked about the chase that was initiated with that first hello. Lennie married Robbie and lovingly aggravated her for 61 years. Together, Lennie and Robbie had four children; Joey, Ricky, Paul and Jenna. From there he joined the Mesquite Fire Department where he met five of his lifelong friends. In fact, all five families picked up and moved to Houston together to be part of the Houston Fire Department. His career there spanned over 39 years. He was a Captain at Station 3 for 28 years. Station 3 was pristine as Lennie had great pride in his station and equipment. This was demonstrated by numerous awards for "Yard of the Month". He had a loyal and tight knit crew who stayed with him for years becoming a second family. He was a highly respected firefighter with instinctual abilities and skill while mitigating any situation with calm confidence. Lennie was known for affectionately referring to everyone as "Ace" or "Stud". Lennie loved the holidays, telling tall tales and keeping everyone entertained while hosting the legendary Higgins Holiday Dinners. He was always the center of attention. From a young age, Lennie was quite a car enthusiast. He liked 'em fast. He always had a corvette in the garage and a plan to buy the newest one….as soon as he could convince Robbie. Lennie was a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather to his seven grandchildren; Austin,
Riley, Carson, Alyssa, Erin, Hudson and Harrison whom he loved with all of his heart. Lennie was a devout Catholic who was at peace with taking his place beside his Lord and Savior. Lennie will always be known as a fighter by his children and grandchildren as he never gave up
on his battle with cancer. Captain Leonard J. Higgins Jr. will be missed by so many as he touched a great many citizens
throughout his 46 year career, and as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and firefighter. Lennie is survived by his wife, Robbie Higgins of Tomball, Texas, his son Joey Higgins and wife Sherrie of Argyle Tx, Ricky Higgins and wife Tracy of Houston, Paul Higgins and wife Juliet, and daughter Jenna Higgins. His grandchildren, Austin Higgins, Riley Higgins, Carson Higgins, Alyssa Higgins, Erin Higgins, Hudson Barnett and Harrison Barnett. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard J. Higgins, mother Bernice O'Rear, and
brother Vincent Higgins. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm Tuesday January 10, 2023 at Klein Funeral
