Leona Johnson (11/23/53 – 10/18/21)

Leona "Lee" Johnson, age 67, of Tomball, TX passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021. She grew up in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Mater Christi Catholic High School. Lee married the love of her life, William "Bill" Johnson in 1983 and they raised a family together that is extremely close and connected despite their constant geographical separation because Lee was always the heart of her family. Lee moved to Tomball, TX after retiring from her beloved Human Resources career of 16 years at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in Washington DC in 2018 to be closer to her family. Throughout her life, Lee lived in many places from Brooklyn, NY to Omaha, NE to Athens, Greece to San Angelo, TX to her favorite home location in Reno, NV. Because of all these moves, Lee always felt most happy spending time at home with her family and friends even if it meant everyone was simply hanging out, watching TV or playing a spirited game of Phase 10 (or other board game). Lee was always the life of every party and often times filled the room with her boisterous laugh and sarcastic wit. If you wanted an honest opinion, you didn't even have to ask Lee to give you one, she was ready with one of her signature remarks in seconds like "sucks to be you", "no news is good news" or "I say it like it is". She always knew how to brighten someone's day by giving them a good old Brooklyn-style "Hello", saying "Have a wonderful TSA (or wherever that person worked) day" or by asking them a million and one questions because she was that interested and engaged in their life. Lee was one of a kind and was the most important person in the lives of her husband and children. She absolutely loved being a Nana and relished in spoiling her grandchildren, but also made sure to pass on her life lessons from growing up in a different generation. She was the first person her children would call with good news, for advice or to get the rundown on what was happening with the family. Lee had an amazing friendship with her sister, Paulette, who often chatted on the phone with her and made sure to visit her on a regular basis every place she lived. Lee loved to let off steam by playing slot machines or games, enjoyed listening and dancing to the oldies and was an avid Longhorn and Giants fan; often times even saying "Hook Em Giants!" Lee was one of a kind to everyone who knew her and will be eternally missed.

Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Loretta Godlewski and her brother, Bob Godlewski. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Bill Johnson; oldest son, Matthew Johnson; middle son, Billy Johnson; daughter, Kelly Pontigo; daughter-in-law, Tracy Johnson; son-in-law, Tony Pontigo; grandchildren, Leo Johnson, Finnley Johnson and Taylor Pontigo; sister, Paulette Schwenk; nephew, Johnny Schwenk, and her beloved rescue pup, Sunshine Johnson. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Klein Memorial Park and Funeral Home at 1400 W Main St, Tomball, TX 77375.
