Leona Annie Helfrich age 90 of Rose Hill was born on June 20, 1931 and passed on May 6, 2022 in Tomball. She is preceded in death by her parents Martin and Luella (Bitterly) Helfrich, Brother Milton Helfrich Sr., and Brother-in-law Wilfred "Buddy" Kreitz. She was raised on the family farm which was settled by German immigrants John and Susanna Helfrich in 1846.  In 1862 the family built St. Mary's Catholic Church on the farm so the locals could practice their faith.  In 1895 a new church building was constructed on the same property and in 1915 the building was destroyed by a hurricane.  Salvaged material was carried to Tomball and a new building was erected.  This was the beginning of St Anne Catholic Community in Tomball. The family tradition of strong Catholic faith was a hallmark of the Helfrich family which Leona loved and lived.  She was the second of three children.  She and her two siblings, Milton and Delores, spent their early years helping with farming chores to support the family farming business.  In 1952 Leona's brother, Milton, returned home from the Korean War and began a dairy business on the farm.  Leona worked for him until they retired from the dairy business in 1985.  She enjoyed spending her days outdoors watching over the cattle.  She was an avid gardener who always produced an abundant spring and fall crop.  Leona enjoyed taking senior trips with the Hockley Community Center and spending time with the Third Dimension group with St. Anne Church.  She spent the past six years in assisted living and skilled nursing facilities in Tomball. She is survived by her sister Delores (Helfrich) Kreitz, and sister-in-law Betty (Schultz) Helfrich.  Nieces Catherine (Helfrich) Kaminski and husband David, Diane (Kreitz) Wishkoski and husband Donald, Sharon Helfrich.  Nephews Milton Helfrich Jr. and wife Wanda, Kevin Kreitz and wife Ginny, and Brian Kreitz. She is also survived by great nieces Lauren Kaminski, Christa (Kaminski) Donalson and husband Chris, and Kaitlyn Wishkoski.  Great nephews are Jason Kaminski, Nicholas Kaminski, Curtis Wishkoski and wife Cherie, Shane Helfrich and wife Erin, and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.
