Lela was born at home on July 24, 1927 in Hufsmith Texas to Albert and Louise Hirsch, and passed away on Sunday November 28, 2021 in Tomball, Texas. She attended Zion Lutheran School through the 7 ^th grade and then Tomball High School. At age 17, Lela moved to downtown Houston and worked in the jewelry department of Foley's.

Lela moved to the Cypress area when she married Buddy Schmidt on March 29, 1947. There, they raised three sons. Lela was a wonderful cook and also enjoyed oil painting and caring for her flowers.

She was preceded in death by her: parents Albert and Louise Vogt Hirsch, husband Ervin "Buddy" Schmidt, son Mark Schmidt, brothers Irvin and Maxie Hirsch, and sisters Ruby Martens and Gladys Bennett.

Lela is survived by her Sons, Allen Schmidt (wife Dorothy), Glen Schmidt and Daphne, daughter-in-law Cindy Schmidt. Grandchildren, Bryan Schmidt (wife Kelli), Amanda Blanke (husband John), Douglas Schmidt (wife Brigitte), Ray Schmidt (wife Kristin), Blake Schmidt (wife Angela), Kevin Schmidt, Blair Schmidt. Great Grandchildren, LeeAnn and Will; Morgan, Macy and Max; Barrett and Fisher; Carter, Avery, Grant and Owen; Bristol and Cole.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and special friends and long-term caregivers – Janice Sarmiento, Traci Scurlock, and Steve Loewen.
