Leila Marie Bishop was born on October 4, 1938, in Memphis, TN, to William Robert and Elsie Marie Price. She grew up in Memphis where, after graduating high school, she attended business school and got her first job at an insurance company. While skating with friends at a local roller rink, she met Jim Bishop; they married on October 3, 1958. They briefly lived with his parents before moving to Biloxi, MS, where Jim was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. In Biloxi, she worked as a civilian at Keesler Air Force Base and had their first child, a daughter. A few years later the family moved to Garland, TX, for Jim's job. While in Garland, she got a job with the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (the "FNS") and had their second child, a son. The family moved to Houston in 1969, and she and Jim divorced in 1973. In her mid-thirties she put herself through nursing school and became an LVN while also working full-time for the FNS. She eventually found the love of her life, Lewis Weaver. They enjoyed traveling together, especially to Colorado. She retired after 40 years of government service.
Marie deeply loved her family and was always there to offer encouragement and support. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, collecting recipes, and listening to music -- particularly classic country and gospel. She was strong in her faith, and we know she is now at peace with our heavenly Father.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her two children, Denise Blocker and Robert Bishop (and his wife, Wendi); three grandchildren, Shaun Avants, Shelby Blocker (and her husband, Ben), and Matthew Bishop; two great-grandchildren, Raia and Arlo Avants; her sister, Virginia Bradford; her nephew, Robert Rodgers; and her niece, Diane Burney.
