Leah Ruth Mcdaniel's Obituary
Leah Ruth McDaniel passed away, peacefully, April 25, 2017, in Magnolia, Texas. She was born December 5, 1920, in Gainesville, Texas, the daughter of Charles E. and Ada Delle Bivin.
In July of 1938, she married M. S. (Bud) Lucas who died in 1972. Leah and Bud moved to Wichita Falls in 1945 where she was a homemaker until their children were in school. She then began working for Sears Roebuck in the Appliance Repairs & Parts Department where she eventually became the assistant manager. Her employment covered over 20 years.
In September of 1976, Leah married Dr. Wallace McDaniel who died this past January. Wallace was a dentist in the Houston area for a number of years and she worked as his assistant and bookkeeper until they both retired in the mid 1980s. They enjoyed traveling in their Casita trailer to all parts of the U.S. The east coast was a favorite destination.
Leah is survived by her three children, Gary Lucas and wife, Mary, of Tomball, Sherry Keiser and husband, David, of Wenatchee, Wa., and Danny Lucas and wife, Shelly, of Gainesville. Grandchildren include Lori Lucas, Stacy Laitala, Greg Keiser, Steve Lucas, Mark Lucas, Audra Mayes, Chad Lucas, Kelanie Lucas, and Mallory Westbrook; 11 great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a niece, Jane Davis; and several other nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the caregivers at Memory Lane Assisted Living for the loving and compassionate attention shown to our mother. Ada, Maria, Lucy, George, Sam, and Dulce; you are all wonderful. A big thank you also to the hospice nurses who were so helpful.
Sherry, Danny, and Gary want to especially thank Mary, the loving and tireless daughter-in-law, for always being there through "thick and thin" to help in every way needed. You made her life so much more comfortable and enjoyable, Mary. She loved you as her own daughter.
Leah was a loving, compassionate, and optimistic person who definitely lived a life full of grace. She taught us all to live by the Golden Rule - to treat others as we would have others treat us. She talked softly but carried a big switch -- as Gary would say and remembers very well!
We love you and will always miss you, Mom.
A memorial service celebrating Leah's life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, at the Klein Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 9714 FM 2920, Tomball, TX 77375.
