LEAH MELANIE McMULLAN JOHNSTON

(Don't call me "Lee-uh" it's pronounced Lee!)

Melanie was born August 16, 1965 in New Orleans, Louisiana and passed away December 30, 2019 in Cypress, Texas at the age of 54, where she lived with her husband William Oliver Johnston for over 26 years.

Her mother passed away early in Melanie's infancy and her grandmother Mary McMullan—"Granny" to Melanie—helped her through her early years and continued to be one of Melanie's most influential role models and a source of unconditional love throughout her life. Her grandfather Maston McMullan was a powerful influence on Melanie's morality, work ethic and model of love. Judy McMullan adopted Melanie at a young age and together with Melanie's father Daniel Maston McMullan loved and parented Melanie through the following decades.

She lived most of her childhood in Houston, Texas and was proud of her role on the drill team at Stratford High School, then enjoyed other forms of dancing for years. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Mississippi State University in 1987 and was a proud "Bulldog" for the rest of her life.

Melanie moved to Houston, Texas and married Bill in 1993 and together they raised Melanie's first daughter Lauren Leah Breland Parker and their daughter Hannah Casey Johnston. The most immense joy in Melanie's life was being the best mother she could be to her two girls. She loved her children.

Melanie was an elementary teacher in Mississippi and Texas for over 24 years. Teaching was one of the joys and passions of her life and she always strived to be a great teacher.

During the latter years of her life, Melanie suffered from several health issues. Comforted and sustained by her lifelong and steadfast faith in God, she battled these sicknesses for over a decade and was finally rescued from her pain in 2019.
