Lavender Atieno Muirhead
November 15, 1977 – September 8, 2025
Lavender Atieno Muirhead, 47, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family with peace and love on September 8, 2025.
Born in Nairobi, Kenya, to Tobias Ogweno Rachuonyo and Dorothy Achola Ogweno, Lavender lived a life of compassion, service, and joy. For over 20 years, she dedicated herself to family medicine, deeply passionate about helping others. Her educational journey reflected her commitment: she became a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 2000 after graduating from Houston Community College and began working at Village Healthcare Skilled Nursing Facility. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2005 from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and worked at Houston Methodist, CHI St. Luke's at Texas Medical Center, and different facilities while living in Wichita, Kansas. Finally, she completed her Master's degree in 2017 at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston as a Family Nurse Practitioner, and worked at Jacinto Medical Group in Baytown until 2022 where she joined Kelsey-Seybold Cypress Clinic.
Beyond her career, Lavender cherished spending time with her friends and family, playing tennis, staying active, and exploring new restaurants. She brought fun, compassion, understanding, and kindness to everyone she met. Those who knew her will remember her intelligence, warmth, and her gift for making others feel seen and cared for.
Lavender is survived by her loving husband, Jason Muirhead; her children, Kyle and Kendall Muirhead; her siblings, Cynthia Ogweno, Beryle Ogweno, Clifford Oluoch, and Collins Otieno; her father, Tobias Ogweno Rachuonyo; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Achola Ogweno.
Visitation will be held from 5:00–8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Klein Funeral Home – Cy-Fair Northwest, 9719 Wortham Blvd, Houston, TX 77065. A Celebration of Life will follow on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kyle Muirhead at 713-806-1694, which will go toward covering expenses.
The family wishes to thank the caring hospice staff, as well as Lavender's many friends, who made her journey memorable and comfortable.
Lavender's legacy of love, care, and joy will live on through all who were fortunate enough to know her.
