Obituary

Laura Ann Scherer went home to be with our heavenly father on the 28th of October 2016 in Cypress, TX. She was 78 years old.

Born in Sealy, TX on the 24th of August 1938. Laura Ann was the daughter of Frank Vavra and Maria Pawlak Vavra. She was the older sister of Patricia (Pat) Vavra Wilson. While growing up, she and her family moved back and forth between Galveston, and Wharton, TX. Laura Ann always said that she was most fond of the time they had spent in Galveston when she was a little girl. After the family had settled in Wharton, Laura quickly became very involved in school and her many great friends within her Class. Her senior year Laura Ann made Varsity cheerleader, an accomplishment she was most proud of and would later on in life encourage her four granddaughters to try for. She graduated from Wharton High School in 1957.

After graduating she moved to Houston, TX to attend South West Business School where she received certifications in Secretarial Training. While attending South West she met the love of her life, Victor George Scherer. They married on the 29th of August 1959. Victor George and Laura Ann were married for a long and loving 57 years.

Laura Ann gave Victor George three wonderful sons, Scott Anthony born in 1961, Gregory Jerome born in 1962, and Jeffery Allen born in 1964. She focused her efforts on raising her family and participating actively in the community. All three of her boys where very active in the Cy-Fair High school FFA and she was very proud to be involved with them. She was the quintessential 'Show mom'. She loved helping her sons to achieve their show goals, always encouraging and helping in any way she could. Some of her fondest memories involved being in a show barn with her children and the many lifelong friends they made across the state of Texas.

After her children had grown, Laura Ann enrolled in Tomball community college and took classes in Medical Office procedures. She began volunteering at Tomball Regional Hospital from 1986-1999.

After her husband retired, they spent the majority of their time entertaining friends and family. Laura Ann held family above all and they were perhaps the most precious to her. Some of her favorite family memories involved them all being together at the beach house they rented out every summer. She was an avid fisherwoman and loved to be out on the boat fishing with her grandchildren. You could always bet that she was going to be the one to catch the biggest fish. She also enjoyed football and rooting for the Aggies and her home town team the Texans. Even at the end of her life she would say "isn't there supposed to be a football game on tonight?" and the tradition continued. Her grandchildren where her pride. There was nothing that was out of reach for them if 'Nan' had anything to say about it. She had four beautiful and wonderful granddaughters and one handsome, talented grandson.

Laura Ann brought grace and a little bit of flair and energy to everything she did. She was an incredibly intelligent woman enhanced by her remarkable memory constantly keeping up with the world around her. We know she will be sorely missed.

Laura Ann is survived by her husband Victor George. Her son Scott Anthony Scherer and his two children: Her oldest granddaughter Korin (Kori) Victoria Scherer and her only grandson Daniel Anthony Scherer. Her son Gregory Jerome Scherer. Her son Jeffery Allen Scherer and his wife Crystal Scherer and their three daughters, the oldest; Ashley Nicole Scherer, the middle; Amber Michelle Scherer, and the youngest; Amandalynn (Mandy) Grace Scherer. Her sister Patricia (Pat) Wilson and her husband Bo Wilson and their three sons; Stewart Wilson, Ronnie Wilson, and Sheldon Wilson.

The memorial will be held on 12th of November 2016 at 2:00 pm at Klein Funeral Home CyFair-Northwest location. 9719 Wortham Blvd. Houston, TX 77065
