Obituary

Laura Lister Chappell, 65, passed away after a 5-year battle with pancreatic cancer on January 8, 2026, in Houston, Texas. She was born February 7, 1960, in Harlingen, Texas to Fredrick Johnson Lister and Doris Potts Lister. Laura graduated from Harlingen High School in 1978 where she was active in Girl Scouts, swim team, and the First United Methodist Church choir. After high school Laura attended Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas where she continued her swimming career, and ultimately earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy in 1983.

Laura worked as an occupational therapist for 37 years, spending the last 20 years as a home health therapist. Laura married the love of her life, John Chappell, on February 29, 1992, in Houston, Texas. Four years later on April 23, 1996, they celebrated the birth of twins, Colin and Clare Chappell. Laura had many creative hobbies including knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Her friends cherish the handmade gifts she made them over the years.

Laura is preceded in death by her father, Fredrick Lister, her mother, Doris Lister, and her husband, John Chappell. She is survived by her children, Colin and Clare Chappell, and her brother, Fred Lister.
