Obituary

Larry Alan Newman May 8, 1947 – May 28, 2025

Larry Alan Newman, beloved husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Houston, Texas, on May 28, 2025. He was born on May 8, 1947, in Center, Texas, to Gerald and Gladys Newman.

In 1975, Larry met the love of his life, Darlene Francis Wey. They married in 1980 and shared 45 wonderful years together, making cherished memories in their homes in both Houston and New Braunfels. Through this union, Larry became a devoted father to two children, Patrick Todd Newman and Deidre Darlene Doigg, creating a loving family of four from the very beginning.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Darlene; his son, Todd Newman and wife Stacy of Ardmore, Oklahoma; his mother, Gladys Newman of Canyon Lake, Texas; his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Becky Newman, also of Canyon Lake; and his treasured grandchildren: Corey Yoest of College Station, Eathan Newman of Norman, OK and Addison Newman of College Station, Texas. He is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Deidre (Doigg) Yoest, in August 1996; his father, Gerald Newman, in 2007; and son-in-law, Gary Yoest, in February 2025.

Larry was a proud graduate of Coahoma High School, Class of 1965. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in physics and mathematics, followed by a master's degree in physics from Sam Houston State University. This academic foundation led to a distinguished 30+ year career with ExxonMobil as a petroleum engineer. His work took him not only across the United States but around the world, with assignments in Norway, England, and China.

A lifelong fan of the Houston Astros, Larry found great joy in watching baseball, attending his grandchildren's many sporting events, and playing anyone in the domino game "42". He especially loved the peace and slower pace of life at the family's home in New Braunfels, spending countless hours enjoying the beauty of the Texas Hill Country.

Known for his quick wit and playful sense of humor, Larry had a special talent for making others laugh—especially those he held dear. A proud bargain-hunter, Larry never met a thrift store or antique shop he didn't enjoy browsing. His philosophy was simple: if something's on sale, you might as well buy all of them—you never know when you'll need one… or ten.

A service to honor Larry's life will be held on Monday, June 2nd, at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Dr, Spring, TX 77379. A private family visitation will take place from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m., followed by a visitation for friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m., with Deacon Kevin Cascarelli officiating. Larry will be laid to rest at Klein Memorial Park Cemetery, 9714 FM 2920, Tomball, Texas, 77375.

Pallbearers will be: Todd Newman, Jerry Newman, Eathan Newman, Andrew Marsh, Bobby Strack, Tommy Marsh, Corey Yoest, and Jennifer West.

Larry's legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
