Larry Doolen of Cypress, Texas passed away on August 10, 2017.  His life was well lived as spoken of by friends, family and all who knew him.  He was a man of strong character and integrity, loved and cared for his family, but still shared his gifts and talents the Lord gave him in ministering to others.  He had been a Bible teacher of youth and adults for 42 years.  His research into the first eleven chapters of Genesis and the Biblical account of creation was evidenced by his special teaching and support of creation ministries. He was a member of First Baptist Church Tomball for the past ten years.

Larry graduated from Rice University with a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a native of Sweeny, TX and a long-time resident of Beaumont, Texas, where he spent the larger part of his 40 years of employment with DuPont.  Upon retirement, he and Carla moved to Cypress to spend more time with the grandchildren he loved so much.  As a former athlete himself, he loved sports and took pleasure in watching his children and now grandchildren compete and excel in their chosen sports. He and Carla celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 10, 2017.

Larry is survived by his wife, Carla; two daughters, Wendy Povinelli of Cypress and Lyndsey Doolen of Los Angeles, CA; and a son, Dr. Jason Doolen (wife, Kate) of Cypress.  Grandchildren are Nicholas and Lauren Povinelli and Spencer, Allison and Meredith Doolen.  He is also survived by a sister, Fredell Culpepper (husband, Drew) of Richwood, TX.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Hallie Compton Doolen.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, August 12, at 3 pm at First Baptist Church Tomball.  Visitation will be held prior to the service at 2 pm at the church.  The burial in the Sweeny, TX cemetery will follow on Sunday at 3 pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Institute for Creation Research (ICR.org) at the following address: Institute for Creation Research, P.
