Kirk James Simon

Kirk was welcomed to heaven on the morning of August 2, 2017. Born September 3, 1964 in Port Arthur, Texas, the eldest of 3 boys born to J.R. and Emma Simon. His Mother describes him as helpful, even as a child. A trait he became well known and loved for throughout his entire life. As a child he excelled at baseball, football and track in school, making varsity football his freshman year. As a Dad his sons remember fondly that he never missed a game or graduation. Kirk's life revolved around keeping his family and friends close. He referred to everyone as "my good buddy". He was so outgoing that he made friends with everyone no matter where he went and never met a stranger. Kirk taught his children to see the enjoyment that lies in spending time with those you love and that there was no substitute for the admiration and respect of your family. He was passionate about people, which could be seen in his personal and professional life. Kirk was always all in with everything he did and everyone he crossed paths with. He treated his son's friends like his own children and his friends like family. Kirk married the love of his life and best friend, Sandy in 2004 and shared many a road with her on the back of his Harley. They were inseparable for the 22 years they shared together, where he went she went and vice versa.

As a lifelong resident of Cypress, he graduated Cypress Creek High School in 1983. He then joined the Cypress Creek Volunteer Fire Department and retired as an Assistant Fire Chief. His career was in Restaurant Facilities Management, most recently for the last decade at Brinker International. Kirk was among the founding members of SCRC Cypress Creek Chapter #508 where he served as Second Officer. Kirk raised money for St. Jude's and even played Santa for the Deplechin Center for children. He made many friends and influenced many more over the course of a short lifetime. He was a humble, yet strong willed man who had a gentle soul. His greatest accomplishments in life were being an extraordinary husband, father, son and grandfather.

He dedicated his life to helping the people of his community as a volunteer Fireman which inspired his eldest son to walk in his Father's footsteps. He was a well-respected man. His trademark was determination to do whatever needed to be done. That commitment was the love he had for his family and friends. His wheels never stopped spinning, unless it was nap time. He liked a good nap even during a party, when he would silently venture off for a siesta and would return with his wheels spinning again, ready for a second helping of fellowship and food. He was affectionately called KiDyver, as he could fix anything and was happy to rise to any occasion. He never passed up the opportunity to lift his shirt and flash you while riding his Harley. What started as a joke became his signature move on chapter rides. He also hated sleeves and promptly cut them off of his t-shirts. He earned the name of First Trailer Officer with his expertise in trailer building. He was always the center of attention. Most of all he was happiest spending time enjoying life. Always seeking new adventures and entertainment, he started Just One More tailgaters as the Houston Texans #1 fan. He invited everyone he knew and spent countless hours setting up and cooking for the party. Kirk knew this was the stuff a good life was made of and he was always high on life.

Left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife Sandy Simon, Mother Emma Simon, sons Cody Simon and wife Ashley, Cory Simon and wife Shannon, daughter-in-law Dobe Hendley, brothers Kent Simon and wife Arlene, Kelly Simon and wife Anna, granddaughter Abby Hendley and nephew John Simon.

He is preceded in death by his father JR Simon, son BJ Hendley, and beloved schnauzer Aggie. We will miss his smile, big hugs, kind eyes, the sound of his laughter and how he loved cake more than anyone else we will ever meet. He was a remarkable man, who encouraged the dreams of so many and praised their every success like only a Dad could do.

A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, August 12th at 2p.m. at Klein Funeral Home at Champions with a reception to follow at On The Rox Sports Bar & Grill, 10535 Jones Rd. Houston, Tx. 77065. Ph. 281 807-7500. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
