Kennis Baskin

Kennis Baskin, a distinguished business leader, accomplished aviator, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, in the loving embrace of his family.

Born on March 17, 1944 in Houston, Texas, Kennis built a life defined by discipline, intellect, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Widely regarded by those who knew him as one of the sharpest and most capable minds they had ever encountered, he approached every endeavor with thoughtfulness, precision, and a relentless drive to improve.

In 1973, with the confidence of a small group of early supporters who recognized his potential, Kennis and his wife founded CS&P Technologies. What began as a modest venture grew over the course of five decades into a best-in-class organization, setting new standards and helping to elevate the well service industry with highly customized equipment. He was a measured risk-taker never reckless, always deliberate and his leadership was marked by sound judgment, high standards, and a deep sense of responsibility. His influence extended far beyond the company itself, shaping the careers of many he mentored and worked alongside.

At the same time he began building his business, his wife Denna, founded Redd School, a respected private academic school that quickly earned a reputation for excellence in the Houston community. Together, they built not only successful professional legacies, but a strong and enduring partnership that spanned nearly 60 years of marriage.

Beyond his professional achievements, Kennis was a dedicated general aviation pilot for nearly 50 years. He earned the respect of fellow aviators through his professionalism, discipline, and unwavering commitment to safety. With an impressive amount of flight time spanning multiple aircraft, he exemplified precision, preparedness, and continuous learning. He approached aviation with the same methodical mindset that defined his life committing himself to ongoing training, thoughtful decision-making, and the highest standards of performance. He was a mentor to aspiring pilots and was known for generously sharing his knowledge and experience. He would have been eligible this year for the prestigious Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award, a testament to his lifelong dedication to aviation excellence.

Kennis lived a life of balance equally comfortable working with his hands as he was engaging in continuous learning and improvement. He was disciplined and methodical, yet adventurous; a leader in business who also found fulfillment outdoors, particularly in hunting and fishing. He held high expectations for those around him, but was always fair, principled, and just.

Kennis is survived by his wife, Denna, sister-in-law Nancy McDonald, his children and their spouses, Brannon and Shelley Baskin, Brandee and Scott Rochard, his three grandchildren, Bradan Baskin and his wife Stephanie, Brennan Baskin and Mason Rochard. Each played a role in the family business in their own way, reflecting the values of hard work, accountability, and pride of ownership that he instilled. His children and grandchildren carry forward his legacy of leadership, building upon the strong foundation established over many years.

Kennis is preceded in death by his parents, Kennis and Inez Baskin, his wife's parents, Talmage and LaFaye McDonald, his uncle by marriage, Ben McDonald, and beloved brother-in-law Travis McDonald with whom he shared a close bond.

He will be remembered for his integrity, intellect, and the quiet strength with which he led his family, his business, and his life. His legacy endures in the organization he built, the industry he helped shape, the people he mentored, and the family he loved deeply.

A visitation will be held on April 9, 2026, at Salem Lutheran Church at 8:30 AM followed by a celebration of life service at 10:00 AM. A private graveside service will immediately follow the celebration of life service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the charity of their choice, honoring his memory by spreading kindness and enriching the lives of others.
