Obituary

Kenneth ("Ken") Wayne Hartley, to many known as "Coach",  passed away Thursday evening, May 7th, 2026, at his home in Spring Tx. A native Houstonian, Ken was born October 3, 1943, at St. Joseph Hospital. He is survived by his son Chad Hartley, grandson Cade Hartley, his special person, Catherine Thorstenberg, sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and Daniel Barrett and his companion dog, Amber.

His love of basketball and coaching his players were only superseded by his devotion to his son and grandson. His proudest accomplishments were raising his son as a single parent after his wife passed away and being an active part of his grandson's life. He drove his son around the US in the summers so Chad could attend basketball camps. An example of his devotion to his grandson is that he would drive to Austin after teaching school to see his grandson's high school basketball game in the evening and then drive back to Houston to be at school the next day. He only missed one of his grandson's games in all the high school years. After his grandson went to college in Oklahoma, he watched every game from home but never missed family weekend at the college. He was truly devoted to his family.

He was a coach and teacher for over 50 years. He loved coaching at Westbury High School and still stayed in contact with many of his former players. He was a "father figure" to several of the players. He was also an avid Golden State Warriors fan.

Other than his love for basketball, he loved to work in the yard with his plants and loved to decorate his yard for Halloween and Christmas.

Friends and family are cordially invited to a memorial service to celebrate Ken's life at Klein Funeral Home, 1400 West Main, Tomball, Tx on Thursday, 21st. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. This will be followed by the memorial service at 10:00. Graveside will immediately follow at Klein Memorial Park, 32539 SH249 (about a mile away from the Funeral Home).
