Kenneth "Pop" Lindsay, beloved husband, father, grandfather, engineer, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, in Houston, Texas. He was 88 years old.

Born on August 24, 1937, in Rome, Georgia, Ken was the only child of Connie Mack and Mary Edd Lindsay. Though an only child, he never lacked for family. He grew up surrounded by loved ones and shared a lifelong bond with his cousin, Judy, who was more like a sister than a cousin. Their friendship endured throughout their lives, and even in their final years, they continued their cherished tradition of talking on the phone, sharing memories and laughter from a lifetime spent together.

A brilliant student with an insatiable curiosity, Ken graduated from Auburn University and began what would become a remarkable career in American aerospace history. He joined the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), one of the pioneering organizations that would become NASA. As a member of the famed Space Task Group at NASA Langley Research Center, he helped lay the groundwork for America's journey into space while simultaneously earning a Master's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Virginia Tech.

When the opportunity arose to relocate to Houston as part of the growing space program, Ken embraced the move that would shape the rest of his life. Not only would Houston become the center of his distinguished career, but it would also lead him to the love of his life, Neva Adeline. Their meeting would prove to be the greatest blessing of all, beginning a love story that would span decades.

Over the course of more than 53 years of service, Ken contributed to 137 space missions, helping shape some of the most significant achievements in human space exploration. When the Johnson Space Center opened in late 1963, Ken became part of the team that would help define its legacy. There, he dedicated himself tirelessly to the nation's space program until his retirement in 2012. Despite the extraordinary scope of his accomplishments, Ken's humility never allowed him to dwell on personal recognition. He simply believed he was doing his job well and serving his country, viewing his contributions as part of a larger mission rather than individual achievements.

While his career was extraordinary, those who knew Ken best understood that his greatest joy was found in the moments centered on his family.

On April 3, 1964, Ken married the love of his life, Neva Adeline Laird. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. They made their first home in Friendswood, Texas, where they welcomed their only son, David, in 1968. Later, they moved to Tomball, Texas, where they built the home and life they would cherish for many years.

Ken and Neva shared a marriage rooted in friendship, faithfulness, and genuine affection. Tomball remained Ken's home long after Neva's passing, and it was there he continued to treasure the memories they had built together until he required additional care in his later years.

Their son David was the pride and joy of his father's life. Ken was a devoted husband, an exceptional father, and a loving Pop, always putting the needs of those he loved before his own. He cared deeply, loved generously, and showed up consistently for the people who mattered most. Those fortunate enough to know him understood that while he helped send astronauts into space, his true calling was caring for the people he loved.

He was equally adored by Neva's family, who embraced him as one of their own. Relationships were always his highest priority. Whether family, friends, neighbors, or colleagues, Ken made people feel valued, respected, and loved.

Known affectionately as "Pop," he found immense joy in being grandfather to Paige, Peyton, Parker, and Presley. He loved his granddaughters deeply and unconditionally, delighting in their accomplishments, supporting their dreams, and creating memories they will carry with them forever.

Ken was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Neva, whom he loved faithfully until the very end, and by his cherished son, David, who remained at the center of his heart throughout his life.

He is survived by his four granddaughters, Paige Elizabeth, Peyton Alison, Parker Anne, and Presley Abigail, along with countless family members, friends, colleagues, and loved ones whose lives were made richer by knowing him.

Ken would insist that another important part of his family be remembered: his beloved cats, Marco and Lola, who faithfully kept him company and brought him comfort and companionship for more than a decade.

His legacy lives on through the countless stories shared around family tables, through every Moo Bar enjoyed in his honor, through the achievements of the space program he helped shape, and most importantly, through the kindness, generosity, and love he extended to every person he met.

Though he helped humanity reach for the stars, those who knew him best will remember that his true gift was much closer to home. Pop lived a life defined by service, humility, loyalty, and love. He leaves behind a family who adored him and a world made better by his presence.

A life measured not only by the missions he helped launch, but by the people he loved, the family he cherished, and the countless lives he touched.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
