Kenneth G. Campbell, 84, of Cypress, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2026, after suffering a stroke. Ken was born April 11, 1942, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Kenneth Teviotdale Campbell and Marie Lynch Campbell.

He grew up in Chicopee, Massachusetts, an only child in a close-knit Irish Catholic family. As the eldest of 17 grandchildren, he loved family gatherings and remained devoted to family throughout his life.

He served as an altar boy at Holy Name Catholic Church, sang in the boys choir, and was a paperboy and shoveled snow, developing the strong work ethic that defined his life.

Proud of his Scottish heritage, he wore the Campbell tartan on special occasions and cheerfully endured teasing about what was underneath his kilt.

Ken attended Holy Name Catholic School and Chicopee High School, before graduating from Monson Academy in 1960, where he developed a love of literature and writing. He later earned a degree in English from the University of Missouri.

In 1966 he completed Army Officer Candidate School and served as a captain. While stationed at Fort Bragg, he met a beautiful blonde and a year later, he and Peggy Thornblom were married and began their life together stationed in Okinawa and Bangkok.

After leaving the military, his career in human resources took the family to St. Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee, and New Orleans before they settled in Cypress in 1980. On Belgrave Drive, Ken and Peggy built friendships, hosted joyful gatherings, and gave their children an idyllic childhood.

Ken never met a stranger. Funny, outgoing, and a stickler for manners, he taught his children and grandchildren to offer a firm handshake and look people in the eye.

An avid reader with a remarkable vocabulary, he passed on his love of books to his children. He loved 1950s rock and roll, opera, horses, and convertibles. His electric blue Volkswagen Beetle convertible was a special favorite of his younger grandchildren.

In retirement, he and Peggy traveled the world, eventually reaching every continent. He volunteered with SIRE Equine Therapy and Cypress Assistance Ministries, then worked part-time at Memorial Assistance Ministries, providing career counseling. He often said it was the best job he ever had, and he loved his MAM colleagues.

Becoming PawPaw was one of his greatest joys. He and Peggy traveled with their older grandchildren, while the younger ones treasured sleepovers and PawPaw's special pancakes. His grandchildren adored him, and he adored them.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Peggy (née Marguerite Thornblom); his children, Dana Campbell of Austin, Lara Sweeney and husband Ric of Cypress, and Craig Campbell and wife Lori of Gatesville; and five grandchildren, Carlton and Justin Campbell, and Campbell, Luke, and Charlotte Sweeney.

A funeral service will be held at Klein Funeral Home – Champions 16131 Champion Forest Dr. Klein, Texas 77379 on May 29, 2026, at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ken's name to Memorial Assistance Ministries .
