Kelsay Anne Wright Swain, age 88, died Friday, February 7, 2020 at the home of her granddaughter in Canton, Georgia. From her birth in Laredo, Texas on July 18, 1931 to her death she nourished people around her with love, faith, laughter and a true devotion to God. She joins in heaven her husband, James William Swain, who died in 1983 as well as her parents, her two brothers and her sister.
Kelsay grew up in Houston, Texas and attended John Reagan High School where she was a member of the Glee Club. She went on to attend Texas Women's College in Denton, Texas before transferring to University of Houston and graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Foods and Nutrition with a minor in Education. She worked as a dietitian for the Southern Pacific Railroad before she became a full time homemaker and mother. After the death of her husband she moved to El Paso, Texas and began a second career teaching sixth grade Science where she was Teacher of the Year.
Kelsay is survived by her three children, Debbie Swain Kettler, of Frederick, Maryland, James B. Swain and wife Joy of Katy, Texas, and Kelley Swain Brock Simmons and husband Henry of Baldwin, Georgia. She also leaves eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren along with three nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday February 21, 2020 in the chapel of Klein Funeral Home, Burial will follow at Houston National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m..
