The desire to be a doctor came at an early age for Bruce. This came from his own experiences after receiving open heart surgery from the renowned cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Denton Cooley. After that, Bruce set his sights on going to medical school and becoming a surgeon; however, during his pediatric rotation, his plans took an unexpected turn when he found out he had a gift for working with children and loved it too! He refocused on becoming a pediatrician and never looked back. Bruce attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston followed by a Pediatric residency, also with Baylor College of Medicine.

Bruce was strongly recruited to join the Kelsey-Seybold's Spring Clinic pediatric practice as he completed his residency in 1988. Bruce was a well-respected and popular pediatric clinician throughout his 27-year Kelsey career. Bruce was appointed Managing Physician of the Spring Clinic in 1990 and when it relocated to its current location on FM 1960 in 2005, Bruce was appointed the Managing Physician of the Spring Medical and Diagnostic Center, a position he retained until his retirement. Bruce was also elected to the Kelsey-Seybold Board of Directors in 2004 and served until 2013.

Bruce served in a multifaceted career with the Clinic. He was part of a team that led the implementation of the Clinic's electronic medical record and he eventually split his time between his pediatric practice and information technology.  He loved his work and his patients but was sidelined by his own health issues. In 2015, in a letter Bruce wrote to his patients, he let them know that he held them close to his heart and that being their doctor had enriched him.

Bruce also strongly supported and encouraged those he worked with, and they made statements such as – "He had an amazing way of making you feel like he was listening to everything you said, like you were the only person in the room". Another stated – "Bruce was a gift to me. I learned so much from him and appreciated working with him".  Bruce also had a love of music - folk, rock, classical and opera. He had season tickets to the Houston Symphony and Houston Grand Opera and made annual trips to the Kerrville Folk Music Festival.

Bruce also loved sports, art and serving/supporting his church, Christ Church Cathedral. Bruce participated as a Lay Worship Leader and a Lay Eucharistic Minister. Bruce also served as Coordinator of Lay Liturgical Ministries. He was described as faithful and devoted to the church and members expressed that they enjoyed working with him.

Bruce was a smart, talented man filled with love, kindness, service, and faith. He had a great sense of humor, loved trivia, and loved to laugh. He will be missed.

A memorial service will be held at April 27th, Christ Church Cathedral; 1117 Texas Ave, Houston, TX at 1 pm with the Rev. Edward L. Stein officiating. A reception will be held at Sanders Hall right after the service.
