KEITH R. HAZELRIGG

On March 30, 1936, in a small house in the town of Bentonville, Indiana, Keith Roy Hazelrigg entered the world. The youngest of five children, Keith spent much of his youth hunting with his dogs, Whitey and Cap, and playing basketball like any good Hoosier.

Keith graduated from Connersville High School in 1954 and began working as a draftsman with Dresser Roots. He was drafted by the US Army a few years later and served at West Point and Fort Belvoir. During this time, Keith's love of travel began, and he spent his weekends on leave going to plays in New York City and driving through the mountains of Virginia.

During his time in the army, Keith's niece introduced him to her roommate, Carolyn Lafuze. He and Carolyn married on September 29, 1962, and moved to Connersville, Indiana. The following year, they welcomed a son, Scott, and a year after that, a daughter, Lisa. In 1974, another daughter, Nicole, joined the family.

In 1976, after several years of working all day then driving to Indianapolis for school at night, Keith graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Soon after, he was given an opportunity to move to Houston to work in the booming oil industry. He accepted and the family of five moved to the Lone Star State.

Keith worked for several oil and gas companies over the next 40 years, primarily as a project manager. He developed several innovative processes and equipment, and has several patents under his name. He traveled the world for work, visiting multiple countries on five continents. Norway and Australia were among his favorites.

Keith was devoted to his family, gently caring for his wife at home for 14 years after she was diagnosed with dementia until her death in 2016. He was also extremely generous, always looking for ways to help family and others. Keith loved to play golf and was a faithful member of Kleinwood Church of Christ

On May 24, during a unexpected stay in the hospital, Keith passed away peacefully. He will be buried at Calvary Hill Cemetery in Houston, Texas.

Keith is survived by children Scott, Lisa, and Nicole; grandchildren Natalie, Jackson, Emma, Ethan, Luke, Cali, and Riley; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Carolyn, parents Leroy and Marian; brothers Franklin and Leslie; and sisters Evelyn and Elsie.
