Kathy was born on October 7, 1949 in Brownwood, TX. She was the only child of Mary Ruth and Newell Peter McCarney. She was raised in Silsbee, TX. The family was very active in the First United Methodist Church of Silsbee where Kathy played the piano during her time in high school during the Sunday morning worship services.

She attended Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. In September of 1970 she entered Lon Morris Junior College in Jacksonville, TX where she met her future husband, George R. Cathcart. Following their graduations, they were married on July 15, 1972 in the First United Methodist Church in Silsbee, TX that marked the beginning of a 49 ½ year marriage. Kathy will be forever remembered for her loving support and commitment to "putting hubby through" college and seminary and knowing they were in it together.

Kathy's love for her gift of music and honoring God was prevalent in her piano and organ playing, especially when playing for worship and other services for the church. Her love for family, her love for life, and especially her love for children will live on in our hearts and memories.

Kathy is survived by her husband, George, her sons Stephen and Jason, her daughter-in-law Somer, and the jewels of her eyes, her grandchildren: Preston, Jay, Hunter, Laurel (in-law), Boston, Skii'Lynne, her great-grandchildren Ronin and Phoenix as well as a host of friends and extended family.

Memorials in memory of Kathy may be given to the Music Ministry of Klein United Methodist Church.
