Obituary

Kathryn "Katy" Caroline Hill McClelland, age 52, of Cypress, Texas, passed into the arms of her Lord on September 1, 2025, at home, with her husband Dustin at her side. Over the recent months and weeks, Katy has been surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Tennessee on March 20, 1973, Katy spent her early years in Memphis and Baton Rouge, but Texas was her true home. Katy was known for her intelligence, tenacity, thoughtfulness, and love for her family and friends. She excelled in both academics and athletics, graduating from Klein High School, then later earning a Bachelor of Arts in deaf education from Texas Christian University, a Master of Science in audiology from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Doctorate in audiology from the University of Florida.

Katy dedicated her professional career to children, first as a teacher of special needs and hearing-impaired children and then at Texas Children's Hospital. At the hospital, she worked to identify hearing loss and then to fit children with appropriate hearing aids, sometimes including cochlear implants. Her patients and colleagues knew her as a highly professional and knowledgeable person who really cared about her work.

In 2004, Katy married Dustin after reconnecting at a high school reunion. Their love story was one of perfect timing and unwavering devotion. Together, they built a family centered on faith, joy, and unshakable love. When their daughters, Audrey (2005) and Jane (2010), were born, Katy poured herself wholeheartedly into her greatest calling—motherhood. She homeschooled her girls, investing her energy, intellect, and creativity into their education. Audrey and Jane are not only exceptional students, beautiful dancers, and artists, they are amazing young women who share their mother's best qualities. Katy was their most loyal and enthusiastic fan—cheering at every performance, treasuring every rehearsal, and taking pride in each accomplishment.

Katy loved math and the challenge of a good board game or puzzle. She was an avid Astros fan, a gardener, and an amateur astronomer who always knew when the next eclipse was coming. She noticed the small miracles of life—the spring blossoms on fruit trees, the flight of backyard birds, the roll of waves on the shore, and the brilliance of the night sky. She took organization and preparedness to new heights, never doing anything halfway. Yet beneath her intensity was a deep well of tenderness and gratitude. She loved people well—her family, her church, her community, and her loyal and lifelong friends.

Katy was cherished by her family and friends, who will miss her terribly. Katy is survived by her husband of 21 years, Dustin McClelland; her daughters, Audrey Kate and Jane Margaret; her father, David S. Hill; her sister, Jara Ahrabi and husband Ryan Ahrabi; her brother, John Hill and wife Rachel Hill; her brother-in-law, Shane McClelland and wife Megan McClelland; her brother-in-law, Myles McClelland and wife Paula McClelland; her mother-in-law, Carrie Ogilvie; her stepmother-in-law, Karen McClelland; and ten beloved nieces and nephews: Henry Ahrabi and wife Elizabeth Ahrabi, John Ahrabi, Caroline Hill, David J. S. Hill, Rosemary McClelland, William McClelland, Augustus McClelland, Conor McClelland, and Calum McClelland. She was preceded in death by her mother, Carolyn Hill.
