Obituary

Kathleen Schwahl, known as Kathy to friends and family, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017, at 69 years of age.  Kathy was the daughter of Regina & Fred Schwahl, both deceased.  She grew up in Hillside, New Jersey and moved to Spring, Texas in 1989, where she lived for 28 years. Kathy was a United States Army, Vietnam War Veteran, whose outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail led to her successful, long-term career as an operating room director.  Kathy was a strong, no-nonsense, self-sufficient woman of impeccable moral character.  She also had a fabulously dry wit.  Her favorite type of humor was the silly and absurd.  Kathy lived a relatively simple life and eschewed extravagances.  She treasured the simple pleasures of a good book, watching the birds who visited her several feeders, chocolate covered animal crackers, and soothing music.  She had a deep appreciation of the Rosary and a very strong commitment to her Catholic faith.  She was deeply committed to her work in and for the church and the many people she interacted with as a result.  She was a lifelong lover and owner of cats.  Consequently, her greatest heartache was having to rehome her precious friends when she became ill.  Kathy was a trusted confidant to all her many nieces and nephews, administering wise advice with compassion and honesty.  She was greatly admired and loved by all her extended family.  Kathy leaves behind her daughter, Debra of Waxahachie, Texas, her sisters, Arlene and Dolores of Kingwood, Texas, seven nieces and nephews, eleven great-nieces and nephews and nine great-grand-nieces and nephews, all of whom will greatly miss her.
