Obituary

Katelyn Makenzie Brown
April 19, 2002 – December 1, 2025
Age 23, of Houston, Texas

On the evening of December 1, 2025, Katelyn Makenzie Brown, 23, of Houston, Texas, was welcomed home into the loving arms of her Savior, surrounded by her family.

Katelyn was born on April 19, 2002, in Houston, Texas, to Sarah and Calvin Brown. She was cherished by her siblings. From an early age, Katelyn delighted in the beauty of the outdoors and embraced a wide range of interests—ballet, soccer, Girl Scouts, and theater—before discovering her deepest passions: writing and, above all, Jesus.

A gifted student and voracious reader, Katelyn graduated from high school in 2020, where she had the honor of delivering the senior charge to her homeschool community. She went on to attend Ouachita Baptist University, earning a Bachelor's degree with honors in Biblical Studies and Theology. While in Arkadelphia, she poured herself into serving the local church, Southwest Pregnancy Center and her campus Christian Ministries department. Most recently, as a resident at Champion Forest Baptist Church, Katelyn served in the Kid's ministry while pursuing a Master's degree through Dallas Baptist University.

Katelyn loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, and mind. Her life radiated the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Whether leading Bible studies, mentoring young girls, or simply walking alongside friends, she lived with intentionality and a quiet strength that drew others closer to Christ.

Katelyn is survived by her parents, Sarah and Calvin Brown; her siblings, Will, Macy, and Jake Brown, all of Houston; her grandmother, Cia Dreves (Meena); and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless dear friends who were blessed to know her. Preceded in death by her grandmother, Jimmie Coonan; grandfather, Papa Harry Dreves; cousin, Eli  Wilton.

A celebration of Katelyn's life and legacy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Champion Forest Baptist Church, Family Life Center, 15555 Stuebner Airline Road, Houston Texas 77069.
