Obituary

Kari Kathleen Fain Duplantis passed away June 13, 2024, at the age of 55, in Cypress, Texas.  She was preceded in death by her infant son, Hunter.  She leaves behind her daughter, Katie Humphreys; husband, Todd Duplantis; parents, Patrick and Gayle Fain; sister, Kelly Nagata (Neal); brother, Kevin Fain; her best friend of many, many years, Greg Pierce; and her dog, Buddy.

A lifelong resident of Houston (with a 5-year stint in Birmingham, Alabama), she attended Klein Forest High School and The University of Houston.

Kari belonged to a friend group of about 10 girls from high school and they kept in touch throughout the years.  Every time they got together it was like no time had passed.  Each one of them was very dear to her.

Kari thrived on adventure.  She had jumped out of an airplane.  She had taken cruises, been to Hawaii, Canada, Tennessee, Louisiana, and many other states.  She drove up the coast of California with Greg.  She loved to ride her bike on trails with Buddy strapped on her chest in his carrier.  Kari was into fitness and was very athletic.  She was a soccer coach for Katie's team.  She was very good with the children.   She became one of them when she spent time with any children.  She always got down on the floor and played with them and they all loved her immensely.  She would swing them around and run and run with them.

Kari was often the life of the party, always quick-witted and had a hilarious sense of humor.  She would show up in her overalls with her chicken croissants and baked vegetables and huge pretty smile that lit up the room.  Her laughter was like no other and very contagious.  On a rainy weekend, Kari and Greg could be found watching vintage movies and could watch many in a row.

Her daughter Katie was Kari's greatest accomplishment and the pride of her life.  Whenever Katie was home from college Kari would absolutely beam.  Most of Kari's entire focus was on Katie and Katie's happiness and well-being.  Katie is her beautiful legacy.
