The world lost a beloved friend, sister, wife, mom and grammy, Karen Elizabeth Smith, on October 27, 2021 in Cypress, Texas. Karen was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on February 1, 1956 to Melvin and Peggy Schmidt. She graduated from Richard King High School in 1974.

After meeting Kenny at the local dance hall, Yellow Rose, they courted only 6 weeks before they were engaged to be married. Kenny and Karen were married July 23, 1976 and have been inseparable for the past 45 years.

Kenny and Karen lived in Corpus Christi and Victoria before relocating and establishing their roots in Cypress, Texas in the late 1980's.  Karen's love for children and her ability to make the kids and parents feel at ease lead her to have a successful career as a Cypress Fairbanks ISD Bus Driver for 25 years before retiring.

As many know, Karen was diagnosed with cancer 32 years prior. Despite this diagnosis, Karen didn't let it define her as she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends, with whom she was always a part of their lives.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Kenna, and her parents, Melvin and Peggy. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Lloyd Smith; her children Kody (Amanda) and Kyle (Marisa); her grandchildren Addison, Colton, Brayden and Brynlee. Also she is survived by her sister Judy (Tommy), GayNell and Kellie (Arturo) as well as her nieces and nephews that consider her a second mom Chris (Julie), Bryan (Megan), Brandon, Jenna and Kelsie.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 5, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Klein Funeral Home in

Houston, Texas. Reception immediately following at the home of Kody and Amanda in Cypress, TX.
