Justin Michael Stuhldreher
Justin Stuhldreher departed this world on March 29 to be with the Lord.  He was born in Akron, Ohio on January 11, 1952, to Augustus and Eleanor Stuhldreher.  He had three brothers, Augustus, Christopher, and Gregory, and one sister, Gina.  Justin attended St. Sebastian Catholic School in Akron through 8th grade and graduated from St. Vincent High School in 1970.  He earned a Bachelor's degree in science at Villanova University in Philadelphia and graduated summa cum laude in 1974.  Justin said that the highlight of his time at Villanova was meeting his wife of 43 years and the love of his life, Mary K (nee Ryan).  They were married at St. Thomas of Villanova Church in 1975.  He enrolled as a law student at the University of Notre Dame and moved to London with Mary K for a study abroad program in what would become the first of many international adventures they embarked upon together.  Justin earned his JD and MBA from Notre Dame in 1978 and launched an illustrious career that ultimately led him to Spring, Texas, where he settled and put down roots.
Justin spent more than 40 years as an attorney specializing in international oil and gas law and worked for Gulf Oil, Amoco, BP, BHP, Marathon Oil, and Vaalco Energy.  Described by his colleagues as a "legal powerhouse," Justin traveled the globe negotiating international contracts, including playing an instrumental role in concluding the "contract of the century" between BP and the government of Azerbaijan in 1994 to develop the country's biggest oil field cluster.
Justin was an avid traveler who always took full advantage of the opportunities his career presented to experience foreign cultures.  His work took him as far afield as Turkey, Russia, Egypt, China, Angola, Norway, Brazil, and Australia, to name just a few.  All of his peers and employers from the various companies where he worked characterized Justin as an invaluable asset because he was a veritable "legal encyclopedia" as well as a shrewd and creative negotiator.  More importantly, Justin's colleagues emphasized that he was a caring mentor who was always willing to take time out of his hectic schedule to offer help and advice.  When Justin left BP, his colleagues threw him a farewell party and presented him with a cake that read: "Only once in a blue moon does a boss like you come along."
Although Justin was dedicated to his career, he was always a devoted father and grandfather.  Justin and Mary K have four children: Peter (married to Sarah), Katie (married to Chris Barnes), Amy (married to Sean Meehan), and Jenny, and two grandchildren: Ryan and Sabrina.  Justin was a dedicated father who emphasized the value of education and the formation of a strong moral foundation.  He always talked about how proud he was of his children's accomplishments and often commented that he thought of them as his greatest legacy.  Peter is a partner at Reed Smith law firm in Houston, Katie is a Foreign Service Officer in the State Department currently posted to Dubai, Amy is a public health program specialist at Ohio State University Extension in Columbus, Ohio, and Jenny is an attorney at Shipley Snell and Montgomery law firm in Houston.
Justin was an exemplary role model for his children and grandchildren and truly set the gold standard of what it means to be an ethical, conscientious, and hard-working professional as well as a patient and nurturing parent.  He proved that it is possible to find success in one's career and still make time for family, once traveling half-way around the world from a business trip so he wouldn't miss a father-daughter dance at his daughter's school.  Aside from his work trips, he also enjoyed sharing his love of travel with his family, spending several months with Mary K in Scotland, enjoying annual beach get-aways in Mexico with his son Peter and grandchildren, cheering on the U.S. ice hockey team at the Sochi Olympics in Russia with his daughter Katie, and exploring Greece with his daughter Amy and Italy with his daughter Jenny on school trips.
Justin was also a sports enthusiast and was often seen wearing polo shirts and baseball caps emblazoned with the logos of his favorite teams: the Villanova Wildcats, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Ohio State Buckeyes.  He took immense pride in his great-uncle Harry Stuhldreher's football career at Notre Dame in the 1920s as one of the team's storied "Four Horsemen."  Justin also served as the head coach of his son's little league baseball team and his daughters' middle school basketball teams.  He coached the St. Edward's Monarchs girls' basketball team to several district championships for the first time in the school's history.  Most recently, Justin had become one of the most enthusiastic additions to the cheering section of his grandson's t-ball team.
He was undoubtedly a generous and faithful friend, husband, father, and grandfather.  Justin's Catholic faith always played a guiding role in his life and he lived it every day through the kindness and respect he showed to others.  To everyone who knew him, he was a trusted confidant and a loyal friend.  He touched many lives and will be sorely missed.
Friends may call on Thursday, April 4th from 6pm to 8pm to pay their respects at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Drive.  Funeral services will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in Spring on Friday, April 5th at 11am.  Interment will follow immediately at Klein Memorial Park on FM 2920.  Family and friends are invited to the McGivney Hall at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 7810 Cypresswood Drive, for some light refreshments following the interment.

For those who desire, donations may be made in Justin's name to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital.
