Junius Pickett Sims III, known to most as J.P., passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, February 19, 2022, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn, his sons, Bill and Todd, his brother, Lewis, and his grandchildren, Lauren, Jordan, Alexandra, and David.

J.P. was born on August 5, 1940 to Junius Pickett Sims II and Virginia Cooper Sims in Montgomery, Alabama. He studied Business Administration at the University of Texas and Stephen F. Austin State University, and spent the rest of his life in Texas building a family and a business. J.P. started Accent Wire in 1986 in Houston in a two room office with three employees. Over his lifetime he grew the company to the world's largest distributor of packaging equipment and supplies for the recycling industry.

Many who knew and worked with J.P. over the years described him as gentle with a quiet strength, and a man of rare integrity. He spoke infrequently and listened intensely, but when he did speak, a room would go silent to hear his words. He was also a man of great humor, often bringing a smile to everyone with a perfectly timed joke.

There were varied interests and hobbies that J.P. held over the years. He was an instrument-rated pilot and owned a Luscombe Silvaire, a Piper Archer, and a Piper Dakota. He enjoyed classical music and was a lover of opera and the theater. His favorite shows were Phantom of the Opera and CATS. He loved western movies and restoring old firearms. J.P. was also a great lover of the outdoors and spent much of his life fishing, hunting, and camping. He taught his sons and grandchildren to do the same. It was J.P.'s lifelong dream to go to Africa and experience a safari, which he was able to do four times alongside his family.

J.P.'s great love in life was his wife Carolyn, to whom he was married to for 59 years. Together they had two children and four grandchildren. Above all, J.P. cherished his family.

There will be a memorial service at WoodsEdge Community Church on Friday, February 25, 2022, @ 2:00p.m. J.P.'s family invites anyone to join in this celebration of his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to J.P.'s favorite charities, Abandoned Animal Rescue and Camp Hope.
