June Davis Smothers, aged 88, died peacefully in her sleep at The Heights in Tomball on August 18, 2017.  June was born August 21, 1928, in Wichita Falls, Texas, and grew up in West University Place.  She attended Pershing Jr. High School and Lamar High School, graduating in 1945.  She then worked for Humble Oil for four and a half years until she became a full-time mother and homemaker.  In 1948 she and R.A. Smothers were married, and, in 1952, they purchased a place in Rose Hill and made the community their home.

June was an active leader in the Rose Hill United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years, belonged to UMC Women, and contributed to Vacation Bible School.  She also was a member of the Rose Hill Volunteer Fire Department, running the fire radio and supporting the work of all the firefighters.  June used her high degree of creative energies in making clothes for her daughters, canning, and cooking, and she always opened the front and back door to many neighbors and friends who stopped by for coffee.  June and R.A. enjoyed travel in the American West from the time their children were young, but they especially enjoying trips in their travel trailer and with family and friends for many years of retirement.

June is survived by daughters Doris Marker, Portland, Oregon, Nona and husband John Swonke, Magnolia, Jody Smothers-Marcello, Sitka, Alaska, and Holly and husband Wallace Tilley, Magnolia. Grandchildren are Heather Tyson (and Richard) McGuirk, Joshua (and Katie) Tilley, Laurinda Marcello (and Eric Harmon), and Jacob (and Samantha) Tilley.  June has also been blessed with four great-grandchildren:  Trey, J.J., Jaxson, and newborn Archer Tilley.  Five nephews and two nieces also survive.

Preceding June in death were her parents Grady and Mamie Davis, sister Doris Steffen, husband of 61 years R.A. Smothers, Jr., grandsons Cody Tyson and Trey Tilley, and son-in-law Joseph Marcello.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Tilley, Jacob Tilley, Brian Nichols, Laurinda Marcello, Eric Harmon, and Andy Allen.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Monday, August 21, at Klein Funeral Home Tomball. Services are scheduled for 10 am Tuesday, August 22, at Rose Hill United Methodist Church, 21022 Rose Hill Church Road, Tomball, Texas 77377, with Reverend Bob Webb officiating.  Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery were June will be buried next to R.A., the love of her life.  Afterwards will be a gathering at the church fellowship hall.
