Lorna June Brown passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6, after a day of family visits, hugs, singing of old hymns, laughter, tears, and reminiscing – a fitting farewell to a long, productive, and enjoyable life. She was 98.

She was born Lorna June Cook on September 20, 1926, in Wasaga Beach, Ontario, Canada, to Clara M. and Fred Cook. After marrying her husband, Stanley Charles "Stan" Brown, in 1949, they soon moved from Canada to Houston where they began their careers and raised their three children.

June was a small lady with a large presence in her family. She was a strong-minded, fun-loving, spirited woman of Christian faith who loved volunteering, reading, gardening, and cats. Her early Houston years included work at Fidelity Bank, and membership in St. Mark's Methodist Church where she made lifelong friends in the Voyagers Sunday School class. For her entire life in Texas, she and Stan were Voyagers who began as young married couples and stayed remarkably connected to this day, even though only a few survive.

June had a long, rewarding career as Office Manager of Southwest Radiology Association. While living and working in Houston, she and Stan were charter members of Memorial Drive Methodist Church, and were also active in Westminster Methodist Church. Their years in Tomball brought them to Tomball Methodist Church where she served as an MYF Counselor and in the UMW. Her avid volunteering included elementary school libraries, the Meadowbriar Home for Girls, Tomball Hospital Auxiliary, and Tomball Emergency Assistance Ministries. A second home on the Bolivar Peninsula allowed them another faith community at BayVue Methodist in Crystal Beach and a volunteer  position at the Second Going Resale Shop.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Stan; her brother, Cyril Cook; and her sister, Audrey Emms.

She is survived by her sister, Faye Gee of Toronto, Canada; and her three children, Chris (Kate) Brown of Greenwood, IN, Jennifer (Mike) Solomon of Houston, TX, and Lorel (Stephen) Hohl of Tomball, TX. She was "Gran" to Hannah Hohl, Erin Solomon (Eric) Skaggs, Rebekah Hohl (Zach) Harrisberger, and Alexander (MacKenzie) Brown; and to her three great-grandsons, Everett and Ethan Skaggs, and Dean Harrisberger. She is also survived by numerous dear extended family members, nieces, and nephews.

The family wishes to extend deep appreciation to Heidy Cuellar, the staff at The Heritage Tomball, Right at Home Care Cypress, and Devotion Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 14, at Tomball Methodist Church, 1603 Baker Drive, Tomball, TX 77375, with Rev. Rebecca Jones officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. An additional service will be held in Ontario for Canadian friends and relatives at a later date.
