Judith "Judy" Ann Walling Rasmussen
July 18, 1936 – December 30, 2020
Judith "Judy" Ann Walling Rasmussen was born in Arkansas City, Kansas on July 18, 1936 to Gilbert and Maryon (Harris) Walling. She grew up in the Santa Fe railroad towns of Purcell, Oklahoma and Wichita, Kansas, where her father's job took the family. After high school, Judy studied art at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, launching her vocation as a watercolorist. She met her husband Randy at Phillips, and after a glamorous stint as a stewardess for a regional airline, she married him in 1957. They spent their first two years of marriage memorably in Germany where Randy was stationed with the U.S. Army. Once back in Wichita, they started their family, and subsequently lived in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Houston and Albuquerque before returning to Houston. Throughout this time, Judy supported her children's sports events, carpools, and school projects, while also honing her art skills for competitions and exhibitions. These preparations exposed the couple to the picture framing business they would one day open in New Mexico, a place they had happily visited over several summers. Later in life, Judy and Randy enjoyed antiquing and gambling trips. Judy had a good sense of humor and, among other life lessons, she showed her children that a well-timed jest could defuse a disagreement through laughter.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Virginia (Ginger) Blockcolski. She is survived by her children Bret, Blake (wife Amy and daughters Hadley, Meredith and Bridget) and Beth, as well as her brother-in-law Lew Blockcolski, and nieces Shannon James (husband Chris) and Sarah Stahlecker.
A memorial is being planned for the family. Gifts in Judy's memory may be made to the Pastoral Care ministry at her church: checks payable to CCCC, and addressed to Cypress Creek Christian Church, attention Pastoral Care, 6823 Cypresswood Dr, Spring, TX 77379 .
