Joyce Puleo Berube's Obituary

Joyce Puleo Berube, loving mother, grandmother, wife, City Councilwoman, and community servant, was called to heaven on April 9th, 2019 to be reunited in eternal celebration with her firstborn son, Craig, and her parents, Margaret and Frank Puleo.

Born Josephine Lucille Puleo, in New York City's Sloane Hospital for Women in 1942, she spent her formative years in the Bronx, where she graduated from St. Barnabas High School in 1960 and subsequently employed by Northside Savings Bank where she met her husband-to-be Daniel (Dan) Berube. In 1962, Joyce and Dan married and she embarked on the next chapter of her life as an Army officer's wife travelling and living on military bases across the United States and Europe. With Dan's two military tours in the Vietnam War in 1968 & 1969, Joyce returned to her native New York city to raise her young family. Following Dan's military duty in Vietnam and the family's subsequent posting to Fort Hood in central Texas in 1971, Joyce enrolled and earned her finance degree from Central Texas College. Upon Dan's military retirement in 1973, they settled in Houston where Joyce restarted her long and storied career in banking initially with Town and Country Bank and latterly Jersey Village Bank, which changed to Sterling Bank, where she retired as Senior Vice President.

Not content with retirement, Joyce decided to return to work thus becoming a licensed real estate agent for Keller Williams Realty, and she continually earned annual top producer for the company, 10 times recognized with the Keller Williams Eagle Award, and received the Community Leader Award from the Women's Council of Realtors Texas.

Joyce was very active in the Cy-Fair Chamber of Commerce. In addition to her great success in business, Joyce is most admired for her tireless efforts in civic and community service. Joyce served 16 years as a member of the Jersey Village City Council and Mayor Pro Tem. She was a graduate of the Citizens Fire & Police Academies and Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) for Jersey Village, and a longstanding member of the Planning and Zoning Commission. Joyce was a weekly Eucharistic Minister at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Community. Additionally, she was a committed volunteer in the community serving the Cy-Fair ISD in its VIP mentoring program, the Harris County Blood Bank, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, Caring For Children Foundation, the Spaulding Foster Home, and the Lonestar College Business Board. When not volunteering, Joyce and Dan loved to travel. Their trips took them throughout Europe, Russia, Africa, the Middle East, and China.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dan Berube, brother, Paul Puleo and his wife MaryJo, sister Fran and her husband Tom Bellina, sister Patricia and her husband Daniel Pace, son Stephen, his partner Eileen, and their daughter Bébhinn, son Christopher and his wife Rose, and daughter Michelle and her husband Bill, and their daughters Madyson and Meghan, and sons Cameron and Bryson. Her legacy will forever live in our hearts, and the memory of her will be inspiration for so many people.

The Memorial mass will be held on Saturday May 11, 2019 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church on 10135 West Road Houston, Texas 77064
