Joy Gail Chamberlain Langer went to be with God on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at the age of 83. Joy was the eldest of three girls. She was born July 7, 1939, to Carl and Lois Chamberlain in Trenton, New Jersey. She was very active as a child and preferred to play outside and work on cars with her Dad. Along with her two sisters, she sang in church and on local radio – they were known as the "Three J's."

Joy met Karl on a blind date in 1956 and it was love at first sight. Because Joy was diabetic, the girlfriend who set up the blind date told Karl that they wouldn't be able to go to a normal restaurant. Karl packed brown paper bags for their meals and planned the perfect evening.

Upon graduating from Hamilton High School in 1957, Joy married Karl. In 1961, they moved into a home in West Windsor, New Jersey, where they brought their baby boy, Dana Mark Langer home. Joy and Karl were members of Hamilton Grange #79 and held various offices. She also joined Morning Star #120 O.E.S in the early 60s.

Joy and Karl had big hearts for serving others and they decided they wanted to be foster parents. It didn't take long before Joy had a calling to adopt instead. In 1966, they began the adoption process of a baby boy which became finalized in 1970 – their second son, Duane Karl Langer. Joy was a wonderful mother to her sons.

Joy got licensed to be a school bus driver, but that was cut short due to the state creating a new policy that prevented diabetics from being licensed. In the early 70s, Joy and Karl moved their family to Houston, TX, where Joy became a paraprofessional in Cy-Fair ISD. She absolutely loved working with young children and this was one of the greatest achievements in her life. She worked with the same teacher for 20 years until her health issues forced her to retire. To this day, Joy and Noreen Hughes are the only two ladies to work together that long. They still kept in touch.

Joy faced many health obstacles for most of her life with grace. She was diagnosed with Diabetes at the age of 16 and was told she would likely not see 30. She well surpassed that prediction. She also had Parkinson's Disease for 20 years, as well as many other issues and side effects, including diminished vision. Joy continued to fight and always said, "These things will not control me. I'll live my life my way and I pray when my end comes, it will be in my sleep." God granted that prayer and she left this world while asleep in her home with her husband, her son, and her dog, Dixie, near her.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents – Carl and Lois Chamberlain; a sister, Judith; her baby, Todd; and eldest son, Dana.

She is survived by her husband of 65 beautiful years – Karl Langer; youngest son, Duane Langer; sister –Jeryl Spislander; five grandchildren, Erinn Sweeney and husband Chris Sweeney, Cody Langer, Tyler Langer, and Dakota Langer; and two great-grandchildren, Thea Sweeney and Beckham Sweeney.

Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 21, at Klein Funeral Home - CyFair Northwest, 9719 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, TX 77065. A funeral service celebrating Joy's life and faith will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private.
