Josie Jaques Rocha passed away on April 30, 2026, at the age of 82, in Houston, Texas.  She was born in Terlingua, Texas to Santiago and Patricia Jaques.  The family of eleven children, moved to Atoka, New Mexico when Josie was a toddler and eventually settled in Artesia, New Mexico.   Josie worked as farm hand picking cotton or crops in Texas, New Mexico, Arizonia, and California as a young girl.   She was known to sing in the fields and always enjoyed music.  She enjoyed taking care of her nephews and nieces or any baby she could get a hold of.  As a young woman, she enjoyed coordinating local church dances or functions.     One day, as she was putting up a poster for a church dance, she caught the eye of a young man named Adelaido.  Josie felt this man was too reserved, snobby and felt her friend should date him.  But as fate had it, Josie and Adelaido eventually became a couple.   As the youngest girl of the family, Josie was the first and only family member who left New Mexico to follow her husband to Seattle, Washington.   There in Seattle, Josie had her first daughter, Maria.  Josie and her husband eventually moved to Houston, where they had their son and youngest daughter.   Josie stayed home to be a full-time mom to her kids.   She was known to make cookies and help the PTA for the oldest two kids when they lived in east Houston.   The family ultimately moved to north Houston, in the Klein district.  This is when Josie decided to pursue her dream of taking care of children at St. Mathews Child Development Center.  Josie worked at St. Mathews for twenty-six years and often thought of returning to work after retirement.  She loved babies and children and never passed an opportunity to hold a child.   She had the ability to soothe a crying child.   She enjoyed baking canisters full of treats for her family.   Every holiday, Josie would plan out what she would cook and bake for the celebrations.   Josie is known for her beautiful smile that matched her soul.  She had a silliness that matched her husband's reserve.  Her one-liner comments always had her family giggling.   Her infectious love will always keep her loved ones strong, although she will be horribly missed.   Josie is preceded in death by her parents, Santiago and Patricia Jaques, her husband, Adelaido Rocha Jr, and her siblings, Manuel Jaques, Jose Jaques, Salvador Jaques, Toni Palma, Jose Martinez, Juana Bejarano, and Jesse Garcia.  Josie is survived by her three children, Maria Isabel Sapp (son-in-law Stan Sapp and grandson Santos Sapp), Adelaido Rocha III (granddaughter Madeleine Aguilar), Sonia Marisol Rocha and her siblings, Maria Hernandez, Jim Jaques, and Carmen Brito.
