Josie Marie Stuckey Beard passed peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 1:38 P.M., surrounded by her loving daughter, Yonnie, Nan and Neva. She was born on January 15, 1931 in Falls County in the Rosebud community of Cedar Springs, Texas to Dennis Wyatt Stuckey and Emma Moore. She was the youngest of five children and preceded in death by her parents, brothers, and her beloved husband Grover Walter Beard, Jr. Josie grew up among farmers, preachers and deacons, thereby giving her all the great qualities she earned as a caregiver and hard worker all her life. After losing their family farm during the depression, they moved to the Heights area in Houston, Texas where she later met and married Grover. She attended and served at West 14th Avenue Baptist Church until they moved to Recreation Acres (Klein area) in the early 60's where she raised her family and took care of her father until his death. During this time, Josie earned a degree in nursing, enjoying a 31 year career while raising her family. She attended and served as a Sunday School and VBS teacher, and GA leader, as well as singing in the choir at 1st Baptist Church of Recreation Acres, Champion Forest Baptist, then Willow Park Baptist. Josie cared for her husband during his passing as well. She was currently a member of Crossroads Baptist in The Woodlands, Texas. Until she was diagnosed with Lupus in the early 80's, Josie enjoyed sewing, painting, making jewelry, church activities and teaching Tai Chi to elderly patients until a few years ago. She is survived by her three daughters, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, sister Sue Parnell, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Lupus Foundation and/or Crossroads Baptist Church Mission Funds.
