Joseph Ray Simmons, 80, of Cypress, Texas passed away February 15th, 2024.  He was born on May 5th, 1943, in Boyle, Mississippi to the late Lavert and Annibelle (Milligan) Simmons.

He is survived by his sons Jason and Kyle, daughters in law Mary, Tracey and Tina and five grandchildren: Riley, Reagan, Lainey, Brady and Levi and siblings: Clyde, Dorothy, Brenda and Ricky.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Fran and son Thad.  Additionally, Ray was preceded in death by his dear brothers Wayne, Harold, Clark and Tommy.

Ray was born one of nine siblings that were raised on a cotton farm in rural Mississippi where they were all called on to harvest the crop and attend school when farmwork allowed.  Due to illness, his father had to sell the family farm in 1958 and they all moved to Houston to be with some of the family that had relocated to the area.  Ray followed some of his older siblings into the flooring business, which he remained part of for roughly 60 years as he continued working until 6 months ago.

While Ray worked hard, he was always there for his kids, coaching their sports, taking them and their friends to the family farm in Iola, Texas or numerous family vacations over the years.  He put all three sons through Texas A&M University and has always been there for the boys as they've grown up into adults.

Outside of work, Ray loved hunting and fishing with family and friends.  His favorite hobby though was his grandchildren.  He stated that he found some of his greatest times to be following his grandchildren in all their endeavors, rarely missing a function or sporting event.  He was also known to regale anyone who would listen about all their accomplishments and accolades.

Ray will always be remembered for his consistent kindness and reliability.

The family will receive visitors Friday, March 1st, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Klein Funeral Homes – Cy-Fair at 9719 Wortham Blvd, Houston, TX 77065.  Funeral Services will be held immediately after the visitation on Friday, March 1st, 2024, at 2:00 pm with Tina Paez officiating.  Interment to follow in Klein Memorial Park – Pinehurst, 32539 State Highway 249, Pinehurst, Texas 77362.

Serving as pallbearers are Jason, Kyle, Riley, Reagan, Brady and Levi Simmons.
