Joseph "Joe" Matthew Schneider, Jr.'s Obituary
Joe passed away last Friday while cycling in his neighborhood from what most likely a ruptured aortic aneurysm, a condition he was monitoring for many years. Joe was born in 1943 to Joseph and Eileen Schneider in Queens, New York. He served as an artillery mortarman in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967 with Bravo Company, 2/47th Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 9th Infantry Division out of fort Riley, Kansas. He graduated from Queens College of the City University of New York in 1968 with a BA in Mathematics. Shortly after, Joe started his career at Exxon Corporation where he met his wife Linda. They settled in New Jersey with their two children Jake and Maria. Joe went on to receive his Master's in Computer Science from Fairleigh Dickinson Univeristy in New Jersey in 1979. In 1992, Joe and his family moved to Houston where he continued working for Exxon as a systems analyst. In 1998 after 29 years of service, Joe retired from Exxon and moved back to New Jersey with Linda and worked for his alma mater, CUNY, as a research analyst in Manhattan. Joe and Linda returned to Texas in 2009, making Rosewood Hill their home.
Neighbors might remember Joe's morning walks to McDonald's in Rosehill, where he was such a daily fixture that they'd have coffee waiting for him when he stopped to pick up his Houston Chronicle. He carried a book with him wherever he went. Well versed in math, the sciences and arts, he enjoyed browsing used bookstores and visiting museums. Joe loved his native New York City, but also loved life in the country. An avid horticulturalist, he raised plants and citrus trees from seeds. He loved the great outdoors, cycling, hiking, and exploring.
Joe is survived by his wife Linda; two children Jake and Maria of Houston; his two sisters, Justine Cullinan of Queens, New York and Hope Schneider of Greenfield, Maine; and niece Hope Cullinan, her husband Chris Tamburrini and their children Margaret and Ivor, all of Queens, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bartholomew P. Schneider of Tubac, Arizona.
Funeral services will b held Friday, April 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home in Tomball. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. just prior to the service.
