Joseph "Big Joey" R. Edwards

August 16th, 1959 - February 13th, 2024

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Joseph "Big Joey" R. Edwards, a cherished husband, devoted father, adored grandfather, and loyal friend. Born in San Diego, California, on August 16th, 1959, Joey was the beloved eldest son of John and Arlene Edwards.

From his earliest days, Joey exhibited the qualities of a natural leader, a gentleman, and a true friend. Raised alongside his four brothers, he embraced the values of integrity, resilience, and humility. The Edwards family's relocation to Tomball, Texas in 1964 marked the beginning of Joey's enduring pride and allegiance to the Tomball Cougars.

In the realm of athletics, Joey's prowess was legendary. A formidable competitor in both football and baseball, he earned renown for his exceptional skills and indomitable spirit. Despite his achievements, Joey remained modest, always wearing his successes with grace and humility. Known for his quiet demeanor and infectious smile, he exemplified honesty, loyalty, and everything a parent could hope for in a son.

In 1979, Joey's life took a profound turn when he met the love of his life, Jan Kirkpatrick, at Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Texas. Their union blossomed into a blessing, culminating in marriage on August 22nd, 1981. Together, they welcomed their children, Joey, Jordy Rae, and Rhett, into the world, forming a tight-knit family bound by love, respect, and unwavering support.

Joey's dedication extended beyond the homefront as he embarked on a distinguished 29-year career with the Harris County Sheriff's Department, earning a "100 club award" and "Medal of Valor" for his brave and heroic actions in 2004. Despite the demands of his profession, he prioritized his family above all else, ensuring he never missed a moment of his children's sporting events. His unwavering presence on the sidelines, cheering on his sons and granddaughter, exemplified his commitment to nurturing the next generation with the same passion and determination that defined his own athletic journey.

Outside of work and family, Joey found solace in simple pleasures. Whether cheering on the Texas Longhorns being a 28 year long season ticket holder witnessing some of the greatest collegiate football in 2005, indulging in classic television shows, or mastering the art of grilling at family events and birthdays, he embraced life's joys with enthusiasm and gratitude. Though he reluctantly bid farewell to his beloved cigars at the behest of his granddaughter, Jilian Rae, Joey's zest for life never wavered.

In every role he assumed—as husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend—Joey embodied the values of integrity, kindness, and loyalty. His memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

Joey leaves behind a profound void in the lives of those who loved him, but his spirit will live on in the cherished memories he created and the lives he touched. As we mourn his passing, let us take solace in the knowledge that his love and light will endure for eternity.

Joey is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Jan, his cherished sons, Joey and Rhett, and his beloved daughter, Tiffany. He also leaves behind his adored granddaughter, Jilian. Joey is survived by his dear mother, Arlene Edwards, and his brothers, John, James, and Russell Edwards.

Joey's journey is preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Jordan Rachel, his beloved father, John Edwards, and his dear brother, Jerald Edwards.

A celebration of Joey's life will be held at Klein Funeral Home- Tomball on Tuesday, February 20th, 2024 at 10:00 am, where friends and family will come together to honor his memory and share stories of his remarkable journey.

Forever in our hearts, Joseph "Big Joey" R. Edwards will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace.
