Johnny Lee Pruitt

Johnny Lee Pruitt, 76, of Magnolia, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026. Born on March 21, 1950, in Marshall, Texas, Johnny lived a life defined by love, faith, service, and a joyful spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew him.

Johnny proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. A decorated veteran and Purple Heart recipient, he was honored for his courage and dedication with numerous military awards, including the Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle M16), and Good Conduct Medal. His military service was a source of great pride throughout his life, and he often reflected fondly on the time he spent serving his country.

A man of deep faith, Johnny was a longtime member of Magnolia Methodist Church in Magnolia, Texas. He treasured his church family and found great joy in worship, fellowship, and serving alongside them. His faith guided his actions and provided the foundation upon which he built his life.

On August 7, 1978, Johnny married the love of his life, Edith Pruitt. Together they shared 47 wonderful years of marriage, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. He is survived by his beloved wife, Edith; his daughter, Christina Pruitt; and his son, Gus Pruitt. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Pruitt and wife Linda; his brothers-in-law, Mike Collins and wife Shirley, and Clay Collins and wife Debra; along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.

Johnny was preceded in death by his sister, Theresa Pruitt; his parents, LaBelle and Jack Pruitt; and his parents-in-law, Charles and Pauline Collins. [pruittobit | PDF]

Known for his infectious sense of humor and love for life, Johnny had a remarkable gift for bringing joy to others. He made it his personal mission to make at least one person laugh every day, a goal he accomplished countless times. His warmth, kindness, and quick wit earned him lifelong friendships and left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Johnny's legacy is one of unwavering faith, devoted service, boundless love, and genuine kindness. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him to live with the same compassion, generosity, and joy that defined his remarkable life.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Magnolia Methodist Church, 419 Commerce Street, Magnolia, Texas, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 10:00 a.m. Mr. Pruitt will be laid to rest at Klein Memorial Park, (32509 TX-249, Pinehurst, TX 77362) following the funeral with full military honors.
