John Wiley Tate, Sr. was born May 4, 1949 at St Joseph's Hospital, Houston, Texas to Clarence "Buddy" Tate and Lela Mae Cox Tate. Johnny went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on November 5, 2021, while resting comfortably in his home in Hockley, Texas at the age of 72.

Johnny grew up in New Iberia, Louisiana and in 1976 made his way to Katy, Texas. During his high school days, he was a star lineman on his football team and was even awarded a football scholarship to Northeast Louisiana State College (now University of Louisiana-Monroe). A shoulder injury cut his college career short, and he went to work for Texaco (now Chevron). Johnny was a hard worker with honest ethics and integrity and after 49 years working in the Oil & Gas industry, he retired and could truly focus on his loves: his family and the Texas Longhorns. Johnny loved God, he knew Jesus personally, loved his family deeply, was a patriot to his country and loved the Texas Longhorns! He was a true gentleman with a gracious loving heart, a great sense of humor, a genuine friend to all who knew him and will be sorely missed by so many.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Tanya Crossland Tate, their son Chandler Adam Tate, his father Clarence "Buddy" Tate, and his mother Lela Mae Cox Tate.

He is survived by his children, Rachel Tate Miller, and her husband Robert, John Wiley Tate, Jr and his wife Kristin, and Courtney Dawn Tate; Siblings, Lonna Tate Guyer (Edward), Ronda Tate Trahan (Steve), Darryl Tate (Carolyn); along with grandchildren, Cody Miller (Samantha), Kiersten Miller Robbins (Parker), John Wiley Tate III, Caleb Tate, Sarah Tate Dillon (Abe), and Rebekah Tate; and two great grandchildren, Gavin and Gwyneth Miller; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. We must not forget his faithful feline companion of 14 years, Shiloh.

A graveside service will be held Friday November 12, at 2:00pm at Klein Memorial Park 32539 SH 249 Pinehurst, Texas 77362. Reception following at Magnolia's First Baptist Church, 18525 FM 1488, Magnolia, Texas 77353.
