On July 2nd, 2022 John Everette Swain died in Cypress, Texas at the age of 81. He spent his final days at home surrounded by his adoring family. He was born on September 18, 1940 in Morrilton, Arkansas to Grady and Mary Swain.

John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ledra Kay Swain; his children, John David Swain and daughter-in-law Ann of Hockley, Texas, Tyler Swain and daughter-in-law Liz of Houston, Texas; and siblings Ralph Lynn Swain, of Houston, Texas, Ray Allen Swain and sister-in-law Susan Swain of La Porte, Texas and Mary Swain Hatcher and brother-in-law Glenn Hatcher of Spring, Texas. He was a proud grandfather to seven wonderful grandchildren. Namely, William Everette Swain, Anna Elizabeth Swain, Kara Katherine Swain, Alexis Ann Swain, Samuel David Swain, Connor John Swain and Sean Everette Swain.

He graduated from Stephen F. Austin in 1958 and went on to attend Baylor University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1962 and an accelerated Master of Laws in 1964.

John married Ledra on June 6, 1964. They met in a chance encounter in a Baylor cafeteria and agreed to spend their lives together after a relentless pursuit by John. They welcomed John David in 1967 and Tyler in 1970.

John was active in community service, his church, and related ministries. He served as Deacon at Garden Oaks Baptist Church and as a Member of the Union Baptist Foundation. Additionally, he held office as the President of the Optimist Club of Houston. In 1978, he joined Cypress Bible Church where he served as Deacon, Chairman of the Board of Elders and on various committees. John had a dry sense of humor and a perpetual smile. He loved spending time in Hawaii and Colorado with family and friends. John had great respect for the law, but viewed his law practice as an opportunity to help those in need. Most of all, John was recognized for his generosity, kindness and loyalty.

A memorial service for is John E. Swain scheduled for Friday, July 8th at 4 p.m. at Cypress Bible Church, 11711 Cypress N. Houston, Cypress, Texas.
