John Woods Schaeffer, 78 years of age, of Montgomery, Texas, was called home by the Lord on the eleventh day of March in the year of two thousand and nineteen.
John was born in Houston, Texas on May 7, 1940. He grew up in Corpus Christi and was an active member in the community. Throughout his years he worked and obtained the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. Upon graduation from Sundeen High School, John furthered his education graduating with a Bachelor degree in Biology and Agriculture from Sam Houston University and later obtained a Masters degree in Behavioral Science. John was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having been stationed in Korea with the United States Army. John obtained the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (AFEM)-Korea, the National Defense Service Medal (NDSM), and the Marksmanship Badge with an M-14. John chose to continue to help others by making his career in Human Resources, achieving the position of Director and Risk Manager for many years in the Oil and Gas Industry, as well as in Education.
Serving the community was an utmost priority for John. John served his community in a variety of ways. He served on the board of the United Way and the Cancer Society. He was a member of the Montgomery County Fair Association, The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and the Montgomery County Performing Arts Society. Most recently, he was the Precinct Chair of Precinct 39 for the Republican Party. John's hobbies included working in the yard, gardening, and working/showing with his Californian and New Zealand rabbits.
Actively serving God was always a high priority for John. For many years John participated in teaching the Catholic Christian Education classes. As a devoted and active member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, John participated in the church's Adoration program in addition to regular attendance.
John was a faithful husband to his wife and a devoted and supportive father to his two daughters. John believed in the importance of family and dedicatedly supported his daughters in all of their endeavors in life from education to extra curricular activities such as: swimming, rabbitry, and drill team.
John is preceded in death by his parents: Helen Seemann and Charles "Reed" Schaeffer and twin brother Jesse Malone Schaeffer. He is survived by his family: loving wife of forty eight years, Connie, daughter Kristen Betts and her husband Andrew, daughter Elizabeth Minter and her husband Tad. John's two brothers, George and Charles Schaeffer and two grandchildren, Riley Minter and Connor Betts.
Honorary Pallbearers include: George Schaeffer, Charles Schaeffer, Bernard Daleo, Adrian Ethridge, James Wiggins, and Robert Shacklett.
Funeral services will take place at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church at 11 AM on March 15, 2019. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Anthony of Padua Chapel Fund.
The family of John wishes to extend our sincere thanks to his doctors: Dr. Chandrasenan, Dr. Loyalka, Beth Langlois PA, and Dr. Hariharan. Thank you to our family members and close friends for all your help and support during John's hospitalization.
