John Pop, or more commonly known as "Popica" and "Bunu", died unexpectedly on January 4, 2021 at the age of 69.
John is survived by his wife, Milena, 4 daughters and their spouses, 12 grandchildren and another on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, Irina and Todor, and his brother Teodor Pop.
John Pop was born on June 24, 1951 in Cristesti Ciceului, a small town outside of Bistrica, Romania. John went to trade school in Romania to learn to be a machinist and car mechanic. He fled the communist regime in 1977 through Austria, and settled in Houston, Texas as a machinist where the oil industry was booming. He met Milena through friends, and promptly married her on December 18, 1981, just two weeks after meeting. They did not know each other's language. Milena, who spoke only Slovakian, and John, who spoke Romanian and little English, communicated through love and have been married for 39 years.
John lived loving the Lord and life as a good example to others who surrounded him. He was a fisherman at heart and when he found time to spare, he would share it with the ones he loved. He had the funniest laugh and a great sense of humor. His time on earth has ended, but continues with the Lord. He's finished the race, and received his crown... He has finally made it home.
