It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Paul Neubauer of Tomball, Texas. John passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024 surrounded by his wife and sons. John was born on July 25, 1945, in Houston County, Texas. He was the son of Gentry Paul Neubauer and Lillian D. Neubauer.

John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis Lee Neubauer; his eldest son Wesley Paul Neubauer and wife Yanelis Oro Menendez, his youngest son, John Garrett Neubauer and wife Cheryl Taake Neubauer, and grandchildren Wyatt Paul Neubauer, Pierson Graham Neubauer, Nicole Gordon Oro, Nancy Gordon Oro and Nathan Gordon Oro; Collin Plagens, Kara Plagens and Kelly Williams; and many nieces, nephews and friends. John was preceded in death by his brother Jack Lynn Neubauer and his parents, Gentry & Lillian Neubauer.

John grew up the son of a farmer and an elementary teacher in the small East Texas town of Lovelady, located in Houston County. John learned the importance of a hard day's work, as well as the joys and challenges of hunting and fishing. John graduated from Lovelady High School where he excelled and lettered in all sports: including Football, Basketball and Track and Field. John was the President of the Lovelady FFA class all four years of high school and graduated Salutatorian of his graduating class. John attended Sam Houston State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education in 1967, a Master's Degree in Education in 1975, and received his Superintendent's Certification in 1999.

John loved being a part of the community and caring for the education of the children within his community. This was a job that he took very seriously and with the sincerest of dedication and responsibility. John was a proud member of the TISD family for 46 years, where he started as a geography teacher and coach and then transitioned to administrative roles: including Junior High Assistant Principal, High School Assistant Principal, High School Principal, Assistant Superintendent and ultimately Superintendent of TISD for 16 years. After retiring from TISD, John continued to serve his community as the Chairman of the Board for Tomball Hospital for 8 years.

John loved the outdoors and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was an avid fisherman, of both salt and freshwater, and loved to grow vegetables and fruits in his gardens and orchards. He enjoyed ranching on his farm, woodworking (mostly crafts), and having a flower garden, in which he grew countless varieties of irises, tulips, gladiolus, pansies and poppies. John loved learning new things from start to finish. This ranged from working bees and harvesting honey, to making homemade wine with fruit from his own orchard, to how to grow the latest variety of watermelons. Nothing made John happier though than the time he spent with his family, especially his two sons.

Visitation will be held at Klein Funeral Home, 1400 W Main St. in Tomball, Texas on Monday, November 25th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, 401 Oxford St. in Tomball, Texas on Tuesday, November 26th. The service will commence at 10:00 a.m., with a private family graveside service to follow. Flowers and arrangements are always welcome (as John would love all the color) or a donation in his name to the Tomball Scholarship Foundation would be the greatest honor. John started this non-profit foundation more than 25 years ago to provide scholarships to deserving students within our community, in which he proudly awarded hundreds of over the years. https://tomballisd.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/22489/172/False/True.
